Spells of Gold is interesting to examine -"what if a Space Trading Sim, but as a Diablo-like?"
There's a main questline and even good/bad paths, but weaved around tons of trading & deliveries between towns (and avoiding/killing enemies) to earn money & grow stronger. Repetitive, but I see the charm
A big draw of the game-design-by-A/B-testing type thinking is that it absolves you from having to form your own opinions & taste. It allows you to outsource the most difficult part of any creative endeavour: actually believing in your vision.
The reason why this was so good is that players are already trying to congregate by region and community.
TFH gives players the ability to host their own spaces to find region-based opponents and organize entire brackets in-game.
I have yet to see a similar attempt in any other fighting game.
everyone please thank ms laura bow from laura bow in the dagger of amon ra for her assistance in figuring out how visemes will work
vibrating steering wheel for a full f1 race is probably the most effective way of getting chronically debilitating hand arm vibrations as fast as possible. always some clever new innovation for the R&D over there in f1 land🫡
felt very old just now realizing nobody calls them image macros anymore, its all just "meme" now... 🧓
What differentiates Trump from his predecessors is his total inability to conjure the pretense of at least pretending to publicly care about pretense. www.nplusonemag.com/online-only/...
Miyamoto: When pornography escalates, it eventually crosses into the grotesque. I think the world of "hidden secrets" in games has almost reached that same grotesque level. It's reached a point where it isn't measured by common sense anymore. It's just people getting bored and looking for stronger and stronger stimulation. We've hit a wall. When you're at the point where you have no choice but to go "grotesque," you have to start thinking of new ways to use the medium.
I BETTER SEE THIS SHIGERU MIYAMOTO QUOTE ALONGSIDE HIS OTHER FAMOUS ONES
seeing this video now all I can think about is how Jacques Greene looks like he got dressed up to look like Jack Antonoff, but he just looked like that at the time! lots of men did!
I cleared the first loop of @boghogstg.bsky.social's top-down run 'n' gun maze game Caramel Action Micro! It's a great game, it's free, go give it a try boghog.itch.io/caramel-acti...

imo the real juice is RE clones that take the formula and strap some other shit to it like dino crisis, onimusha, parasite eve, fear effect
Starting a small Next Fest thread, haven't played a lot of demos so far, and probably won't play a lot more, but still I'll try.
You can also find a more detailed list for this edition here backloggd.com/u/Fachewache...
Anyways, time for some highlights
There's just something kind of darkly funny about the disclaimer coming right after my write-up of how raw and human the work in question is.
Gonna sleep on this.
always thought it had a sense of sadness and shame about it, like they tried their best but they couldnt hack it, go home to your bananaless house and cry about it losers. which certainly is a different emotion from what a mario game over brings to the table tbf
everything about the aesthetic screams fast slick and precise, but then the game actually is about creeping around and looking thru inventories for bits and bobs to take home and/or sell. real smart stuff
he looks like an overgrown schoolboy playing dress-up no matter what he's wearing

not just combat, f.ex. tomb raider (basically the original PoP 3D) had platforming that was very precise, both in your control and in level layout (see: www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2lF...). now platforming is generously aided on the assumption you should end up where you probably wanted to go
next step is reading iain m banks's novels and seeing how everything cool about marathon lore was already done in the culture series but way better
youtube video doing the rounds today hit my feed, title was about whether remakes replace games as art so i’m like ok i wonder which way this will go and then i watched it and it was just a full hour of equivocating about definitions then saying there’s lots of nuance here so no one truly knows……..
A four panel grid from Usagi Yojimbo of Usagi being portrayed as a squiggly outline that becomes more detailed in each subsequent panel.
POV: You're sobering up, and your old pal Usagi is there to take care of you.
I've become obsessed with Arika's Jewelry Master, an original puzzle game (albeit heavily inspired by Cleopatra Fortune) with the physics and advanced mechanics from their TGM series.
