@jeffgeerling.com if you can't clear your solder afterwards you might be using a solder that expects something else then alcohol, that's a thing, some actually use water, some are "no clean" (dubiously) , check the datasheet for your roll
I had one with a broken keyboard for 15 years, I swapped the keyboard... wasn't the problem, I inserted a game cartridge and there the keyboard worked, turned out the interrupt part of the silicon inside the CPU was dead and the game pulled the keys instead, new CPU, works.
Interesting, but I would avoid any proprietary things about matter at the moment to avoid to not get any software updates
