thankfully, miss fukiko recognises her and gets the lipstick right off (yes, it's witch's lipstick, of course it was)

having her mom not recognise her, even after wiping the lipstick off pretty sloppily, is too much for the poor girl ;_;

magic lipstick, you see. they all see her as an older girl, but even with her magic loupe, she can't see it herself

but when she walks around the smiling ginza with it on... no-one recognises her, either blanking her or thinking she's a relative or something

on her own though, she finds a discarded lipstick so decides to be a little grown-up and try it herself!

next episode, this summer heat's doing miss fukiko's makeup no favours, so time to freshen up, you get a full makeup tutorial in anime form for like 30 solid seconds, and potpourri's fascinated too

and so they have a little fly together as amane heads home, what an episode, amane is absolutely awful (i support her)

yep, turns out she can't quite use magic without her familiar just yet. she's still got a ways to go, but she's earned potpourri's respect anyway

that parrot's not just for show, it seems. but she can't handle dogs either, poor thing

amane wants to run the set so summons a fire that gets rick distracted, but then her parrot runs off. well, flies off.

potpourri's turn, she summons rick and as amane sends the raincloud to rain all over her, rick turns it into a pretty rainbow, aww

and so, in the park, amane uses her powerful, ultra-cool, super-duper strong lightning magic to conjur up...

with potpourri slightly teasing her flying skills, amane goes all-out and declares... a contest! a magic contest!!

i'm sorry i could just post this complete butthead all night she is so good and she's only been her for five minutes so far

and boy, are the festival volunteers surprised the next day when their broken drum is full of plants!

so grim becomes the drumhead and busts out his best beats. yes, there's an entire scene of the lampposts dancing, yes it rules

grim's the only one that shows up to help, and you can't see this in still images but i can assure you the lampposts are getting closer

see, their shoulders get awful stiff standing still all year, but with the drum out of action, they can't get their workout! this is a job for a little witch

the lampposts, obviously, they can only talk this night every year

it's really cute that the first thing potpourri does after realising she can talk to the lampposts is thank them for their hard work, bless her cotton socks

on her way home, potpourri hears some weird voices, who could it be?

there's meant to be another round of dancing but the poor taiko drum's had enough, oops

that means yukatas (ufo patterns optional), masks, rigged fishing games and good! friends.

next episode, lanterns? taiko drums? it can only mean one thing, the smiling ginza's finally getting a taiko no tatsujin cab. or it's the bon festival, one of the two
