Existence is absurd. But just because nothing matters doesn't mean nothing matters to me. Skeptic, determinist, nihilist, & drunk. All too drunk.

"...patience can change even the grumpiest hearts. Sometimes all it takes is a little kindness..."

This was said about a parrot, but of course it's true with humans too. I try to remember that "hurt people, hurt people" when someone is mean towards me, so kindness is never a wrong response.

Most conservatives couldn't logic their way out of a paper bag. Without critical thinking becoming a universally-required course in public schools (which cons would no doubt call "liberal propaganda"), we'll forever be at risk of the morons & idiots running our entire species right into extinction.

The irony of fascists complaining about being discriminated against is hilarious. But the fascists being too stupid to ever realize the irony of it is... well I guess it's just classic, isn't it?

I long for the day that we never need to make memorials for dead soldiers ever again.

Will humanity ever choose to stop being pawns to the tiny portion of old rich men?

Vietnam Memorial. The wall of names is huge. Looking at it as I walked through, all I could think about was the mountains of blood spilled. The lives ended too soon. And for what?!

For a few powerful people to have more power & a few rich people to be richer?

It made me sick. And sad.

Don't get too excited. The "reboot" is in the form of a limited series comic book & isn't a reboot at all. It's actually a continuation of the original series set in the same universe.

Still gonna try & get my hands on it though!

For several years, I worked in Ethiopia and Djibouti. There are still tribes of hunters and nomadic warriors living there. Contact with different cultures, such as Western culture, causes all their values, their way of understanding the world, the stories they tell their children, and their mythologies to collapse. After contact, these stories look odd. The children stop recognizing themselves in their parents, in their elders; they no longer want to go on. Many fall into drugs or alcohol. In the capital of Djibouti, a large part of the population lives under the influence of drugs. The young people only dream of emigrating to Yemen, where the worst kind of slavery imaginable awaits them.

Q. And did something like that happen with the Neanderthals?

A. Homo sapiens tools are standardized. Neanderthals, on the other hand, had a much more unique and creative, though far less efficient, way of using them. It’s clear to me that these humans collapsed. Depending on the region, they may have chosen to become invisible, and in others, they simply no longer wanted to go on living. It was an individual and social suicide of the population. This is how humans disappear: when they no longer want to live because their values have collapsed.

Q. Does that say anything good about us, the group that prevailed?

A big part of why I go after religion is because if you can teach someone to think critically well enough to reject religion, all other absurdities will fall behind.

And then, more than just the little harms like believing in Bigfoot, it'll stop the big harms that prevent humanity from progressing.

A recent survey suggests that as many as a quarter of Americans believe that Bigfoot exists. And one may ask, "Who cares? What does it harm?"

Because a populace willing to believe in absurdities can be convinced of anything. Even to make a moronic egotistical fascist dictator wannabe our leader.

The willful ignorance & scientifically-illiterate fear mongering in the comments would be hilarious if not for the embarrassment they are to humanity for thoroughly rejecting the incredible gift of intelligence that was bestowed upon our species.

A reminder that high school dropout conspiracy theorists who think particle colliders will destroy the planet have equal power to choose our leaders as the PhD researchers who use particle colliders to advance humanity's knowledge about the universe.

Neanderthal "Altamura Man" Suffered An Unfortunate Death And Became Embedded In A Cave Wall Over 128,000 Years Ago In 1993, researchers exploring a cave in southern Italy found a sinkhole leading to a tunnel. At the end of the tunnel was a very strange sight indeed: ancient human remains embedded in the cave wall.

A Neanderthal man met an unfortunate, drawn-out death. But his ancient misfortune resulted in his remarkable preservation, a boon for today's scientists.
