Although I don’t really think this is a “religion vs. politics” thing for me. I just genuinely could never trust anyone with the ego it would take to believe they could handle both roles with any amount of integrity.
Always reminds me of Tony Campolo saying that mixing religion and politics is like mixing ice cream and horse shit—it won’t hurt the horse shit, but it’ll wreck the ice cream.
At some point, it makes me wonder: Is this a person who just tells people what they want to hear?
I don’t trust clergy who run for public office, no matter how much I agree with them politically or theologically
YESSSS finally someone agrees!
Preach!
Picture of milk gallon with expiration date October 31, 1517. Caption, “excuse me while I put away Martin Luther’s milk.”
Do we need to nail this to the fridge door? ⚓️

I don’t think @themountaingoats.bsky.social will cure your depression but they’ll remind you that you’re not alone in it.
For whatever reason, and with no real justification, my dad believes It Will Happen in June

Delighted by this episode of Star Trek TNG where the away team is trapped in an alien hotel but it just looks like they don’t know how to use revolving doors
Fun thing to think about very briefly: who currently has better lawyers, the United States or Nintendo
Think I’m going to need a few volunteer readers pretty soon as I start to work on my little commentary on Acts in the coming months. Preferably mainline Protestant or Catholic. Laity or clergy would be fine. I’m aiming for a general rather than academic audience.
Anyone here interested?
I kind of nod along with the thesis of the piece, roughly, that it would be good if LLMs actively resisted becoming tools for warfare but also we might as well be talking about aligning calculators to human values.
No, I need to go back to a time when *love* was still possible.

"U.S. military investigators believe it is likely that U.S. forces were responsible for an apparent strike on an Iranian girls' school."
"The strike would rank among the worst cases of civilian casualties in decades of U.S. conflicts in the Middle East."
I’ve heard universally good things about it. A friend of mine says he thinks it’s the best movie in the past 25 years.
I started a sl1 run of #DarkSouls the other day, and I’m finally starting to understand why people hate this game

I know this isn’t the point, but “Martin Luther Lutheran Church” sounds wrong. In my head it should be “Martin Lutheran Church” 😂
The internet—and social media in particular—are looking more and more like net-negative developments for society. We’re diseased. Seems we have two options here:
1) burn it all down.
2) engage in a looooong and relentless counter-culture campaign to undo the brain rot this has caused.
This is so disappointing.
“The study, which surveyed 23,000 people worldwide, shows that as many as 31% of men in their teens and twenties believed "a wife should always obey her husband", while 13% of older men aged 60 and over agreed with the same statement.”

Kind of starting to enjoy it when the receptionist at my doc’s office calls me “young man”. I’m almost 40.
I’d read that book
