I hate telling NYCers to pay Broadway prices for anything. But Ragtime? You won't regret it. Here's Joshua Henry singing the powerful anthem "Make Them Hear You." Listen to that earthshaking 20-second final note. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXwx...

🚨 Encores! cast Tonya Pinkins in Eartha Kitt’s Wild Party role 🚨
Casting Tonya Pinkins in the Eartha Kitt part in the Encores! revival of The Wild Party is so perfect I want to scream
I admire the hell out of a score that can get away with "And Joan of Arc's the type who sparks the dullest party" with its tongue firmly in cheek.
Tammy Grimes being held aloft by Christopher Walken in High Spirits.

Christopher Walken and other dancers in rehearsal for High Spirits with Danny Daniels (choreographer)
A fun High Spirits fact: Christopher Walken—then billed as Ronnie—was one of the dancers in the ensemble.
My New York City Center office today! Testifying before the New York City Council about the importance of affordability and accessibility for arts and culture!
Pale vaguely-reddish idiot excited to hear the High Spirits overture live.
High Spirits at Encores!
Interval at a High Spirits and I am SO CHARMED
(And I had no idea Campbell Scott could sing like that)
And art. Affordable art - all year long.
Respect to Tiffany Mann, whose "Till We Reach That Day" solo in the City Center iteration of the current Ragtime revival is perhaps the greatest ever heard.
The overture issue is absolutely incredible. I'm listening to it at least once a day. Cannot wait to hear it live.
Same.
BIG: this morning, Mayor Mamdani and Under the Radar announced a new initiative to give out 1,500 free festival tickets!
To have someone at City Hall who supports not just theater but non-commercial, often experimental performance blows my mind.
The @mayor.nyc.gov is 100% correct! And this is exactly what Mayor Fiorello La Guardia said and did when he created New York City Center 80+ years ago!
The way "Beautiful Candy" from Carnival—led here by Anne Hathaway in the 2002 City Center Encores! production—makes my heart soar.
Deadline theater critic Greg Evans names 'Liberation' and 'Ragtime' his top shows of the year.
Rob Marshall's multi Academy Award winning musical black comedy crime film "CHICAGO" based on the 1975 stage musical, starring an ensemble cast led by Renée Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Richard Gere opened in the U.S. #OnThisDay in 2002 in a limited release at 77 theaters

When Tchaikofsky wrote ‘The Nutcracker,’ do you think he intended the ‘Russian Dance’ to one day include skate tricks from Tony Hawk? He probably did, right? That’s what San Diego’s Golden State Ballet thought, too.
How “theatre kid” became the new right-wing epithet:
“.. We are a ton of energy and we can be chaotic, but .. What they’re talking about is the person who refuses to stay silent in the face of something that needs to be spoken to.”

Theatre kid as pejorative enters the political arena, pissing me off no end. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/21/u...

There's a non-human version of this photo flying around right now. So 2 things... Isn't it incredible what real people can do AND I love that you can see the mighty New York City Center in the bottom left corner. Look for the dome!

Reading the news and wishing “Here There Are Blueberries” were playing somewhere 24 hours a day, live, so people could pop in the way you might pop into a church when things are just too dire. I would hop on the subway immediately.
