Alex Pretti from his early days working at the VA
Alex from our time working together, while he was in nursing school. Later, he moved to ICU, working as a nurse to support critically ill Veterans. He had such a great attitude. Weโd chat between patients about trying to get in a mountain bike ride together. Will never happen now

New images from the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration have revealed a dynamic environment with changing polarization patterns in the magnetic fields of supermassive black hole M87*. As shown in the images above, while M87*โs magnetic fields appeared to spiral one direction in 2017, they settled in 2018 and reversed direction in 2021. The cumulative effects of this polarization change over time suggests that M87* and its surrounding environment are constantly evolving. Credit: EHT Collaboration
This is amazing:
A direct image of the shadow of a black hole.
A direct image of the hot, swirling gas circling and falling into it.
And brand-new images showing an apparent magnetic flip around the black hole, a sign of turbulent, tumultuous changes. ๐งช๐ญ

Yeah, there can be cultural differences, it's a short note and people make mistakes - but it's hard for me to imagine why someone would write that, rather than a simple "I'm very sorry, but our slots for visitors fill up quickly, and it's unlikely there will be room on the dates you request."
