Last day at NYCC... Although if there are no flights due to weather maybe we'll all be stuck here

1. Anti-trans outrage is losing its bite.
Last week, Elon Musk led a mass boycott campaign to get trans characters removed from shows on the platform.
Major conservatives joined in.
Now, we have the result: the boycott was a fizzle, and Netflix stock is up.

Spending today lurking at panels and texting friends creepily that I'm watching them. Normal, right?
I definitely will! Looking forward to chatting.
So so so tired (been up since 3am) but am about to fly off to New York. Particularly excited to share the city with my spouse, who's never been there before. Plus I get to see friends I haven't seen in TOOOO long. The convention is incidental, although it'll keep me busy.
hi, cis folks in california!
this headline leaves out that newsom has another 5 days to sign these bills into law. if youβd like to tell him he should do that to protect trans californians, you should to reach out.
he also has a phone: (916) 445-2841
want to know what to say? next post! π§΅
Agree
It sucks because I don't even want to get more specific about my anxiety lest it put people I love at risk. But I am REALLY looking forward to squeezing some friends this week. And even though I wouldn't want to live there anymore, that includes the city of New York π
I have been more head down lately just because a) busy and b) everything going on in the world has made my anxiety spike. I've tried to keep as much of my actual life off the Internet lately for safety. So. If you want to keep up with me, direct communication is your best bet.
I won't be on any panels or a particular place, but will be attending panels and meeting with creatives, so it's best to make a plan. Otherwise you might just see me in passing as I'm speeding my way through the crowds with the walking equivalent of road rage as the 1,000th person kicks my cane. π
Hello friends and colleagues! Just wanted to let you all know that I will be in NYC for New York Comic Con next week. For those who will be attending the show or who just live in NY and would like to connect, please reach out!
If the world is a dumpster fire and I have insomnia more often than not for the first time in my life... at least there's new Yellowjackets this Friday.

Watching businesses cave and grovel and throw minorities under the bus and betray their workforces and professed βvaluesβ in a matter of weeks is a clarifying experience
Lemkin is the man who is considered to have invented the term "genocide" in America after World War Two. He originally was very popular when he restricted his discussion of genocide to the crimes committed by Nazi Germany in World War Two. Unfortunately for America, he had a larger and more realistic vision of the subject of genocide. He began to point out that genocide had existed throughout world history and that America had sometimes played a key role in genocide against other peoples. When he started talking about this, his support in America largely evaporated and he died in poverty. However his studies are relevant and we present here his list of what he thought were the greatest genocides in history, Below is his list of genocides from the following book, "Lemkin on Genocide."

Fascinating find
A list of historical genocides and characteristics of genocide, compiled by the Jewish lawyer who *invented* the term "genocide" in 1943
From the very beginning, the concept was never supposed to apply narrowly, let alone just to Jews:

I swing wildly between despairing, "we gotta move out of this country," anxiety and terror and absolute fury at the horrible weirdos in government. While also on day 9 of influenza and at one of my busiest work times. My body and brain are exhausted.
Help the people in my state from your home wherever!

I sincerely donβt know why people arenβt physically stopping those dorks. Move shit. Lock doors. Lose the keys. Everyone switch seats. Turn off all the lights. Switch the signs on the elevator lobby. Make the settings all silly. Use a different language. Wear costumes. Fill rooms with balloons
Hot tip to my fellow cozy gamers, the Hello Kitty Island Adventure game is everything I could possibly want it to be and is now out on Switch and Steam. I think Jonas is sick of me exclaiming over the game while we bed rot with a shared cold. But y'all, I'M NOW FRIENDS WITH AGGRETSUKO
I focused on the things I could do and the things I HAD to do this week. That meant various work and volunteer tasks, cat caring, and small moves to protect me and mine. Plus only spending a max of 30 minutes a day engaging with the news and/or social media and buying a cozy game for distraction
I'm so glad I got to have a horrible cold this week while simultaneously being immensely busy at work and watching American democracy crumble at an accelerated rate. It's even causing issues within genealogy communities so even that hobby isn't safe from the stress and anxiety (as if I ever escape)
π£ MAJOR MAJOR PSA π£
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SIGN UP FOR A PROTEST. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO "REGISTER" TO SHOW SOLIDARITY. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GIVE YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, AND PHONE NUMBER TO HAND OUT AND DISTRIBUTE MATERIALS.
YOU JUST SHOW UP.
From me to you, for some joy in the dumpster fire
frances is trustworthy when it comes to blocklists. if you want to avoid any accounts that are gender trolls- sub to this one and tap "block" to block everyone on the list π
and none of those pieces are being written by people who understand how that level of constant abuse CHANGES you
itβs not a mere tedious cleanup process, blocking todayβs round of trolls just like sorting out the junk mail from the bills and birthday cards
it does not live on you that lightly
Wild how liberals blame βthe issueβ β where thatβs actual human beings, trans people β and never ask themselves if they failed trans people by failing to out strategize fascist propaganda. Like maybe you guys sucked at winning and trans people arenβt the problem?? Personal responsibility etc

Me: I went through a big Mariana Trench phase as a kid. But maybe every kid does?
Spouse: I did! But maybe we're not the best sample size.
(Both of us are weird nerds.)
So, friends. Did you go through a Mariana Trench phase?
