This is literally an advert for the torture technique where you’re forced to dig your own grave.

A notice in an old book of alchemy reads:

THE best Artists may commit Mistakes or Errors,
but they are Pardonable, when they proceed not from a willful and careless Neglect, and therefore its hoped that the ingenuous Reader will connive at the want, or misplacing of Comma's, Periods, or Parentheses, and for the rest they are here set down, that there may be no Mistake in the sense of the author.

About to start including this β€œdon’t be pedantic about typos, okay” disclaimer at the front of every book

This is crucially important point.

1) "No quarter" is indeed specifically war-crime term

2) Under Geneva Conventions, after sinking an enemy ship, the attackers must "take all positive measures" to find and rescue any survivors. Text in next post

No evidence US sub did so after attack, AFAIK

A tweet overlaid across the cover of Eric Carles's The Very Hungry Caterpillar:
the "Book Will Turn Your Kids Trans" crowd really need to start explaining why I am not, in fact, a very hungry caterpillar.

I love effects and visual tools but he even started to loose me with Beyowolf. It took me a while to realise that it was ok. Because it's an awkward birth of a difrent kind of film making.

The tech he has played with has genuinely forwarded film making to my mind.

The more personal he gets the more people seem to think he's being forced into something when the tech is allowing him to tell otherwise impossible to tell stories.

Welcome to Marwen is all but explicitly saying this.

Lawyer: You don't regret that people might have lost income?

Cavanaugh (DOGE): No, I think it was more important to reduce the federal deficit from two trillion dollars to close to zero.

Lawyer: Did you reduce the federal deficit?

Cavanaugh: No, we didn't.

The degree to which cis guys (like myself) need to learn to shut up and not mirror in conversations makes me wonder if they are intentionally being set up to fail in the early socialisation practice they get.

This is very true, and I'd argue that sometimes this extends into the much more mundane and silly but isn't less exhausting for it.

If I tell you that "As Arab, I always get random checked" then someone having been politely reminded to put their jacket in the Xray once in 2014 is not empathizing.

There's a reason they initially stopped chromosome testing in elite athletics: they were finding a lot of athletes with intersex conditions* who otherwise, to the best of their knowledge, were cisgender. It was untenable.

Turns out biology's complicated! There's so goddamned many edge cases!

Discussion of Watchmen is dominated by the thoughts and feelings of male writers, so @shelfdust.bsky.social paid 12 female and non-binary writers to talk about each issue of the serial instead: shelfdust.com/tag/we-watch...

If I had a nickel for every time Franz Ferdinand was involved in the precursor events of a world war, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice
