Enough is enough with Sony this generation. They're ruining the lives of developers and making this easily the worst Playstation generation in history with their mismanagement.

I propose a wide-scale #FUCKSONY movement.

If Konami deserved one a decade ago, then Sony sure as hell deserves one now.

Thank you for all your hard work on the digital library! It's an invaluable resource.

Sektori - Launch Trailer
Sektori - Launch Trailer YouTube video by Kimmo Lahtinen

Just shouting this into the void in hopes that some fortunate soul heeds my words and buys the game.

Sektori is one of the most addictive, challenging, and satisfying twin-stick shooters ever made. I can't put it down.

The Secret Characters Podcast # 2 Tattoo Assassins Featuring ScOULaris and Kevin Martin YouTube video by Trenternet

I had a great time discussing Tattoo Assassins at length alongside lead programmer Kevin Martin on this episode of the Secret Characters Podcast, which goes live tonight at 7pm EST.

Kevin regaled us with recollections from his time working on the game, and I offered a player/fan's perspective.

The three stages with reinstated sound effects are:

Sargasso Sea: ship horns

Blood Sewer: bubbling noises

Jungle: loud bird calls

There might be other stages with subtle ambient noises that were fixed by this as well, but those are the three that I have heard myself.

To ring in the new year, we have yet another round of Tattoo Assassins emulation fixes courtesy of FBneo dev dink.

The latest FBneo (standalone and Libretro) build enables the missing background sound effects on certain stages (two examples below).

Now it's nearly perfect on both MAME and FBneo. ๐Ÿ‘Œ

I'm more of a Thrill Kill man, myself. But Wu Tang: Shaolin Style was a nice consolation prize after TK got cancelled by EA.

I'm just gonna say it. Neon Inferno has the best pixel art I've seen since the original Metal Slug trilogy. I'm just in awe of what they've accomplished here, and the game itself is great too.

Bonus points for shipping with a competent CRT filter as well.

Twenty years on and I still think this is the most breathtaking sequence ever put in a videogame. Testament to the fact that scale and awe are not virtues of graphical horsepower alone

It's become a Christmas tradition for me to receive at least a couple gaming art/reference books every year. My collection is coming along quite nicely, I must say.

I just can't ever move because transporting all of this stuff is gonna be a nightmare.

Let's take a moment to appreciate some of the stellar 2D art and animation in games released this year As a lover of traditional animation in both film and in games, this year has made me pretty happy when it comes to the number of developers pushing great 2D art and animation in their games. To all the 2D game devs lurking around here, check this thread to see if your game releases this year are getting their flowers for excellence in 2D art and animation.

This was a really standout year for highly accomplished 2D games IMO, so I wanted to highlight that.

Just checking, but no plans for a Switch 2 update/version are there? Just wondering because the game would really shine in handheld at 1080p.

As a lifelong fan of print media and dedicated journalistic games coverage, seeing this in my local Barnes & Nobles today made me very happy.

I made sure it was front and center on the newsstand for all to see. Game Informer is better now than it's ever been IMO.

Yeah. I actually saw Marvel Super Heroes first in my local arcades because none of them had COTA, but I had the same reaction. Just blown away by the quality of the pixel art and animation, and honestly the Marvel cast has never looked better anywhere IMO.

Bonus: Just one frame for this one, but it was an alternate Headless Horseman finisher in which he'd brandish a saber and slice the opponent's head off at the end of the match.

Lastly we have this lovely T-Rex chomping sprite that would've undoubtedly appeared from the bottom of the screen and eaten the opponent in gruesome fashion.

Next we have a Medusa sprite. I assume she would've turned the opponent to stone and then shattered them somehow, but I don't think the details were ever worked out beyond the creation of this sprite.
