Wholeness.

My dads old dilapidated home in the woods

My dads old dilapidated home in the woods

The rebuilt/renewed home with most trees in front cleared away.

I revisited my father’s old property, once in severe disrepair. Someone demoed most of the ruins and built a new home.

I’d only went to sow wildflower seeds so something of beauty could grow there.

But there is life in a place that nearly killed me, and that brings me joy.

Yes, our brains are far more interconnected than we usually credit them for being.

A woman behind the driver seat, squinting as she appears to turn a dial, and the wording “when you can’t find a parking spot, so you turn the volume Down to see better.

The neuroanatomical reason for this is that your auditory cortex also processes visual stimuli, and your visual cortex processes some auditory information…

So turning down the volume helps shift your attention to better focus on the parking space, Street sign, directions, etc.

I already know how strong I am.
I wanna know how soft I can be.

I’ve experienced harshness.
How gentle can this world be with me?
How much goodness can my soul tolerate?

These are the new goals.

How much joy can one stand? How much peace?

Me, a Black woman next to my dissertation chair, both in doctoral regalia

Me, a Black woman next to my dissertation chair, both in doctoral regalia

25 yrs ago I went home for Christmas break, a pregnant teen, barely passing my classes & not knowing what I’d do with an undergrad degree in psychology.

This was a decade ago with my dissertation chair.

1. You don’t have to have it all figured out right now.
2. You can make it!

Bro, it was so good, and I felt like it hadddd to be that people were not aware of it why it didn’t do well! Like, had to be purely a marketing issue.

Good for your nervous system: Timelapse of a moonset over the Pacific.

Try to exhale for the entire descent. The exhale is where your body lets go.

There IS inoculation to #addiction, and that is #connection.

Secure attachments, knowing we’re loved and cared for, being safe enough to connect with others—to love well and be loved well in return…

This provides a buffer against any harm and is the substrate for #resilience.

People disliking your boundaries is NORMAL.

Keep setting them.

Rabbits dislike fences around your garden.

Doesn’t make them bad rabbits. Doesn’t mean you dismantle the fences.

Let people get used to the you that values your garden.
