I dont see how any of my fellow Jewish Americans can be more fearful of college students protesting about Palestine than they are of a militarized ICE stacked with avowed Hitler supporters

It's totally understandable if you're dooming about any facet of the American experiment right now. So your feelings are "valid" in the sense that they represent real anxiety, and I get that. But to vent that anxiety in other people's spaces is wrong for three reasons.
"Social safety nets crumble when most taxpayers feel like welfare money goes to undeserving people. The purpose of entitlements is not to spend as much as possible. It is to make sure the truly vulnerable get the help they need without becoming dependent on government handouts. Scrutinizing food stamp rolls is a small step in that direction." No.
Social safety nets crumble when we wrap them in neoliberal rhetoric aimed at dividing people and deluding them into thinking that everyone--except some tiny group of perfect poor--should be able to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, even if their boots have been nailed to the floor.
Matt Walsh tweeted last year: "We've spent the last 25 years bringing "freedom" and "democracy" to countries around the globe while our own country has been systematically invaded and now our largest cities are run by foreigners and communists. If you want to know why I'm so avowedly non-interventionist, this is why." Then he tweeted today: ""This is a war for oil!!!!!" First of all, the "war" lasted like 90 minutes. Second, going to war to secure vital resources for your own people is totally legitimate. Why should we allow some third world communist shithole to control trillions of dollars worth of oil?"
Laura Loomer tweeted last year: "I’m America First, I don’t support “Regime Change”. I went on @Bannons_WarRoom to talk about Chinese aggression in Venezuela and why we need to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign Islamic terrorist organization." Then she tweeted yesterday: "Maduro has arrived at the DEA office in Manhattan. He was transported in an armored motorcade after being transported in a blindfold via helicopter & then by plane to New York after his compound in Caracas was raided by US Special Forces. Proud to be an American today! USA 🇺🇸"
Catturd tweeted last year: "Name one U.S. inspired regime change that hasn’t ended in absolute disaster." Then he tweeted yesterday: "Venezuela is now more free than New York City."
Will Chamberlain tweeted last year: "The Republican Party is no longer the party of regime change and endless wars If you want to be its standard-bearer that is a non-negotiable position" Then he tweeted yesterday: "I can think of few better uses of my tax dollars than black-bagging the head of a foreign narco-trafficking organization that enriches itself by addicting and poisoning my fellow Americans"
amazing how the entire machine can pivot within 24 hours. no need to slowly upsell the argument; just issue new marching orders

New year, same reminder: The recipe for economic growth isn’t tax cuts for the rich. It’s investment in our people — in health care, infrastructure and education — to build a strong middle class.
You don't grow the economy through trickle-down nonsense.
No idea where this thought is going, but: it's interesting how fans of Neil Gaiman (and before him, Warren Ellis) had no real problem going, "Eh, fuck *that* guy" and walking away when he was outed, but a broad swath of Harry Potter fans have been extremely recalcitrant about leaving it behind.
I know many things are awful but here is one genuinely useful and helpful thing you can do. No matter their party, your representative needs to hear that trans people and our families are not alone and this bill is an unjustifiable and extreme threat to criminalize the health care we need to live.
hard to overstate how bad this is for discrimination against everyone but white people.
I'm saying we are undergoing a wholesale revision of equal protection and anti-discrimination law so that it only protects white people.
Let me explain:
billy bonnëll Manic episode? You mean believing in myself wholeheartedly, uninterrupted, for 36 hours.
I don’t understand why Hemingway got to drink himself to death while writing a manifesto in a house full of cats but when I do it it’s “a maladaptive coping mechanism” and I “need to talk to someone”

I mean... yeah. Its an ethnic cleansing campaign, and should be labeled as such.
a sticker on a utility pole with a few raindrops on it. A city skyline out of focus and a park in the background. the sticker has a white background with a black outline that’s reminiscent of a street sign. in highway gothic font it say: PART OF BEING NICE IS BEING MEAN TO FASCISTS in the center is a black power fist icon moving up and to the left. a “POW” cloud sits around it with yellow in the middle and a red outline to show some action.
Is there interest in ordering another round of these stickers? 👀
Today’s xkcd made me cry.
In a good way.

Stack of blocks labeled, all modern digital infrastructure. A ratchet tipping over the entire stack is labeled AI. A load bearing pillar is labeled unpaid open source development. Another label is AWS, and Cloudflare and Unpaid Open Source Developers.
Extremely upset that a throw-away XKCD joke somehow became the organizing principle for the Internet.
What a banger

It’s come to this: Two federal prosecutors faced immediate punishment because they used accurate words about Jan. 6 that were at odds with Trump-approved phrasing.
No, seriously. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...
If this was any other country you would have legions of analysts and journalists already discussing risks of civil conflict
I want to write about this and get it published somewhere where a lot of people will see it cause I feel this is very important and not enough people know just how bad it really is.

Troops with beards barred from Hegseth event in South Korea: Report • This week, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth will not meet service members holding shaving waivers during his South Korea visit, an email from the 51st Fighter Wing and an Air Force official confirmed. • After a September 30 memo, Hegseth issued guidance reverting to pre-2020 standards, limiting waivers to temporary medical conditions like pseudofolliculitis barbae. • The Sept. 30 memo specified waivers are now temporary for medical conditions like pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB), a painful skin condition common among Black service members and worsened by shaving. Unit commanders were told to begin separating service members with shaving waivers after extended treatment, and the guidance dismantled the prior five-year waiver policy requiring shorter renewals, Hegseth ordered earlier this year. • As part of the Far East tour, Hegseth joined President Donald Trump on a trip including Japan, Vietnam and Malaysia, with his beard crackdown drawing notable media attention.
Oh look. Trump is being racist.
This is, sadly, the correct reaction to have.
It's no longer left versus right or even Democrat versus Republican.
It’s now democracy versus oligarchy. Freedom versus dictatorship. Right versus wrong.
Millions hit the streets this weekend in solidarity with each other and to affirm the foundations of the common good.
This is climate-based resilience targeting.
when i saw marsha fucking blackburn was being honored by journalists i thought i was having a neurological episode
Everything Trump is doing now is a preamble for his regime's real goal: to invoke the Insurrection Act.
I don’t want to unduly alarm you, but you need to be aware of this imminent danger. Let me explain what’s going on.
