The problem, as is often the case, is that I suspect the internal factors driving both sides aren't going to allow them to back down because neither side can be seen, politically, to 'lose.'

Both will demand the other front-load concessions, both will refuse, and then Iran has to throw that punch.

Amazon cloud unit has data centers in the UAE and Bahrain which were already damaged in drone strikes last week.

Iran announces "the start of targeting the enemy's technological infrastructure in the region," by which they mean targeting assets of American companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc, across the region.

In fact the countries with the most parity to Israel are the two which have normalized relations with Israel and in spite of this you are seeing more and more paranoia from Israeli politicians about them somehow posing a threat.

It's obviously a cliche at this point to say but the number one threat to Israel is not anything like raw military parity from another power in the region but its institutional and constitutional incapability to resolve any of its external crises politically.

That is the most common kind of war, to be honest.

We didn't go to war for any reason we can articulate, we didn't plan for the most obvious Iranian countermeasures that have been predicted for half a century, and we forgot an exit strategy for if the thing dragged on more than ONE WEEK.

It was literally "Trump wants to do Venezuela everywhere."

Absolutely agree. Either we protect the rights of ALL humans, or we protect the rights of no one at all.

β€œInside the administration, some officials are growing pessimistic about the lack of a clear strategy to finish the war. But they have been careful not to express that directly to the president, who has repeatedly declared that the military operation is a complete success.”

Profiles in courage.

4/ Ok, so what ARE the goals? It seems, primarily, destroying lots of missiles and boats and drone factories.

But the question that stumped them: what happens when you stop bombing and they restart production?

They hinted at more bombing. Which is, of course, endless war.

Perhaps, if all the NatSec & Military types on Bluesky were to start posting on TS, we might have a fighting chance at saving the world from total destruction?

I actually think it’s cool @mikeblack114.bsky.social has a better sense of what’s going on than the chairman of the joint chiefs, this site has the juice

I would argue that a rather sizable proportion the U.S. population is more inclined to seek out critical credible information and engage in rational cost/benefit analysis than is the chairman of the joint chiefs and his aides.

Prewar US Intel Assessment Found Intervention in Iran Wasn’t Likely to Change Leadership An intelligence assessment completed shortly before the U.S. and Israel launched a war in Iran determined that military intervention is unlikely to result in regime change.

Intel analysts often remind policymakers that regimes rarely collapse just because leaders are hit or facilities bombed. Power structures, security forces, and ideology tend to survive longer than people expect. #Iran #Geopolitics #Intelligence

When tensions rise with Iran, cyber attacks are usually one of the first moves, a way to hit back without firing missiles. That is why U.S. intelligence quietly warns companies and agencies to tighten their defenses. #CyberSecurity #Iran #NationalSecurity #intelligence

β€œThis system will not hurry us into war; it is calculated to guard against it. It will not be in the power of a single man, or a single body of men, to involve us in such distress; for the important power of declaring war is vested in the legislature at large.”

Witnessing anti-constitutionalism.
