Visiting old orchards on livestock farms raises 2 points.
1. the importance of regulating water uptake: long dry periods cause fruit skin to lose elasticity so sudden rain causes splitting.
2. the desire for new skills: here bud grafting maintains future generations & makes fruit easier to pick!
