Yeah, it was cool to go "I wonder what videogame books they have here these days" and then see mine the moment I found the right section.

A photo of some videogame books on a library shelf. The yellow cover is my book The Secret History of Mac Gaming.
Found my first book at the University of Melbourne (my alma mater) library.

It's a pretty good metaphor, really. We're all hiding in caves and sheltering on small islands in the "infernet" world, hoping the world-eating monster doesn't find us as everything we once loved slowly gets destroyed.

My four year old just informed me that a monster is eating the Infernet and the infernet is getting smaller as a result.

In May '25, a beloved Australian games website was sold off. It went dark then, a month later, rose from the dead but stuffed full of gambling links and AI authors.
It wasn't the first time, or the last time, this exact thing had happened. And it's still happening.
My months-long investigation π

Euro 96: The Full Story
A brand new book celebrating the summer that football came home.
This book that tells the story behind the Euro 96 tournament sounds cool, but what really sold me was the Sensi-inspired cover art. www.kickstarter.com/projects/the...

Just FYI, my mic is *really* quiet on the video version compared to you guys. I don't know if there's a way you can swap the audio track in from the podcast version, where we're all nicely matched in levels.

I've been introducing my eldest to point-and-click adventure games via the Humongous Entertainment "junior adventures" series. She's loving them, and is now showing a great deal of interest in any grownup adventures she sees me playing.

This. Loom is criminally underrated and underappreciated, and I want this documentary to change that (or at least help).

Home | Passport To Adventure: The SCUMM Story
From three-headed monkeys to rubber chickens with pulleys, the Passport to Adventure documentary will explore how SCUMM revolutionized adventure gaming and spawned some of the greatest point-and-click...
The people behind the FPS documentary I covered a while back are looking into making a documentary on Lucasarts SCUMM adventure games!
It's early. They're assessing interest before going ahead but already got people like Ron Gilbert on board.

A sketch I put together in 1992. Back then I would have drawn it as line-art first and scanned it. Once digital color was added in Studio-8 or an early Photoshop.
(Too risquΓ© for Casady & Greene to put on the box for Pararena, so they hired someone to come up with truly atrocious box art.)

I started locking my cat out of my office during meetings and interviews a few years ago, because he's too loud (he's a Bengal, so he's very opinionated and has a big meow). He can now detect the exact moment when a call finishes, and then will bang on my door to let him in a few seconds later.

If you want something like that, but for LucasArts point-and-clicks, head to scummdoc.com and sign up. We're planning something a little different (and better!) with Passport to Adventure, and have learnt a lot since FPS, but that Duke3D video gives a good indication of what we're capable of.

Duke Nukem 3D 30th Anniversary Tribute | The Voice, Creators, and Legends Behind the King
YouTube video by Apogee Entertainment
You may have seen the Duke Nukem 3D mini-documentary going around recently (www.youtube.com/watch?v=70mZ...) but not realised that was made by us. It's from our first gaming doc, FPS: First Person Shooter. (Passport to Adventure: The SCUMM Story will be our third, if it gets to production.)

I starting learning bboying, locking, and popping in a dance club during first year of uni, hip hop second year. Started teaching others third year, at which point I also learnt basic ballet and contemporary dance. I have a video of me showing a routine in a corridor, lemme see if I can dig it out.

Hey, thanks for reaching out. I can't promise any dedicated coverage of modern SCUMM development (although I'd like to), but we could definitely make sure it at least gets mentioned and that we show b-roll footage of what you guys are doing. What's the best way/place to learn all about it?

Before we can move this thing into crowdfunding and production, we need to know that it's commercially viable β that it's a thing enough people will actually buy to justify the cost of making it. And for that we need everyone interested to sign up at scummdoc.com

Help me make a dream project: a documentary film (on Blu-ray) about the SCUMM engine and the incredibly-imaginative, brilliant LucasArts games that redefined the adventure genre. It'll feature designers Ron Gilbert and David Fox, artist Mark Ferrari, and many many more, but only with your help.
