Nurse practitioners are a lifeline for millions who live in healthcare deserts. A new proposed federal rule would strip NPs of access to education funds, putting the workforce at risk.

Worksheet titled: "Evolving from Eel-less Language" and it includes a column titled "Instead of" with a red X, and a column titled "Say this" with a green checkmark. The "Instead of" column includes sayings like "You're doing it wrong" and "Look at those used condoms in the water!" The "Say this" column includes sayings like, "You're grabbing an eel by the tail" and "Hey! Manhattan eels!"
I don't have the space here to list all of them. But each expression in the "Say this" column is a bonafide (read that in a Wharvey Gal's accent) historical eel metaphor. We'd all be better off if we talked more about eels.
We're all trying to be careful with our language, so as not to offend, or not to lose federal funding for talking about paragraph transitions.
To help you out, here's a worksheet to guide you in swapping out troublesome phrases for real, historical eel expressions.

I took a mixed levels modern dance class taught by my bff tonight. Failed to remember choreography, pulled several glutes, and had to take a break when I got dizzy. 10/10 would recommend.

Got two articles through the proofing process this weekend, my book is officially under review, and I submitted an NIH grant proposal. Two speaking engagements this week, more coming up soon. Now all I need is a job for next year!

Trying to remember that I’m frustrated because I’m ambitious. I could settle for less, or take on easier challenges. But I don’t. And that’s the person I want to be.

When you pointed out that it looked like a duck, they called you hysterical.
When you pointed out that it also swam like a duck, they said sheesh Bluesky is such an echo chamber.
When you said and now it's really quacking a lot like a duck, they accused you of relativizing earlier ducks.

Alex Pretti from his early days working at the VA
Alex from our time working together, while he was in nursing school. Later, he moved to ICU, working as a nurse to support critically ill Veterans. He had such a great attitude. We’d chat between patients about trying to get in a mountain bike ride together. Will never happen now
