Extremely exciting news: We're hiring a full-time film critic to come work with me at The A.V. Club!
You probably have an idea if you're qualified for this, but if there's something that's not in the job listing, I'm sure I can answer Qs www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/43...
I love this movie
The cognitive dissonance of constantly reading that I need to spend some time mastering generative AI while not knowing a single person in my industry who uses it to do good work 🤙
living in a world where the only two jobs are “gambling” and “murder” isn’t nearly as cool as Cowboy Bebop made it out to be
Remember: Federal officials do not enjoy categorical, absolute immunity from state-level prosecutions. They are entitled to removal to federal court. But conduct that is unreasonable or unnecessary for the execution of their law enforcement duties is susceptible to criminal prosecution.

This is a photo from the Vanity Fair article. Notice how they have to arrange it so Stephen Miller is on the end, so it isn’t obvious that there is no reflection of him on the mirrored table.🧛

I like to think that I personally ruined the workplace.
lot of people out here laboring under the misapprehension that uni is just further high school and there is some higher authority on content than the professor who is a live, working researcher in the field
Funny that James Dobson was so pro life and yet he died. Really makes you think.

"No, Patrick Star from Spongebob Squarepants is not an "Old One" from H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. Patrick Star is a fictional character from a cartoon, while the Old Ones are a specific group of cosmic entities in Lovecraft's horror stories."

Free advice for the Cincinnati/NKY film commission: If you want major cultural events in the city, push back against bullshit like this.

Best thing I did yesterday is see THE NICKEL BOYS. Yes to all the discussion about the innovative filmmaking but also I love films that can show the complex intimacy, anxieties, and love of friendship
"As I watched Twin Peaks: The Return each week, I couldn’t help but recall the words of Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky: “The aim of art is to prepare a person for death, to plough and harrow his soul, rendering it capable of turning to good.”
A grotesque headless cow that says "eat my fear"
NEW YORK (AP) - It seems David Lynch is too gruesome even for New York. The cow sculpture created by the director for a public art show is being returned to California without going on display, The New York Times reported Thursday. Lynch, known for the eerie 1990s television drama ``Twin Peaks,'' chopped off his cow's head and stuck forks and knives into its back. He also covered parts of the cow with a reddish, blood-like substance. ``I thought it was Charles Manson,'' city Parks Commissioner Henry J. Stern told the Times. ``I don't know whether it's shock art or schlock art. David Lynch should stick to his day job, making movies.'' CowParade NYC 2000 features several hundred fiberglass cows decorated by artists and schoolchildren and displayed on sidewalks around the city. Lynch said he was disappointed to be excluded. ``Don't you think when people tell you you're allowed to do whatever you want as long as it's not sexually X-rated that they should stand behind their word and show your cow?'' Lynch said. A cow by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, was rejected before the cow parade began in June and sued the city and organizers unsuccessfully.
One of my favourite small David Lynch moments is when he tried to do one of those ceramic art cows for New York City and submitted this and was rejected.
Pornhub used to pay $2 dollars a word before it pivoted to video. So few outlets are paying for fiction these days!
