I totally get what you are saying as a building block *and* in a 2040 context, no one will be reading 5 paragraphs.
I just think we need a both *and* approach. We can’t shield kids from technology that will run the world and we need them to have old world skills.
I appreciate that students need to be able to express themselves and form a coherent argument, but we are legitimately looking at a future where any job that requires writing will be largely eliminated by the time my daughters are graduating in 2040. I think verbal skills will be more in demand.
The problem is we’re not having a conversation about what skills the Class of 2040 is going to need to survive in the workforce and we are moralizing, assuming those students will need to know how to write a 5 paragraph essay rather than use that time to reason critically about the subject at hand.
