this is unfortunately not just tied to video games, where we see long-running movie and TV franchises try to do something new, and instead are forced to trot familiar faces out so that "legacy fans" can see [thing] as [thing] and not "too different" from what they already know

this book at my shop didn't really move for us but then suddenly a few weeks ago we had people asking for back issues and we have now sold out of most of them. Very cool to see people catching up and the series doing well.
