Some temporary signs placed across a country road: "Road closed," "We apologise for the delay, duration 50 days," "Diverted traffic"
#FMSPAD 6/3 A street sign: Cyclists and pedestrians have this handy lane to ourselves for the next few weeks, or at least until the work actually starts, but we have to be careful not to fall into the rapidly widening pothole where the road is falling into the stream alongside #FMS_StreetSign26

A white worktop with small embedded flecks of colour. A plastic bottle of water is standing in a sink set in the middle of the worktop. A tall swan necked tap rises from the worktop behind the sink, and there are a few blobs of water in the sink which came from it. The window sill behind the sink is still rough and unfinished
#FMSPAD 5/3 A bottle: Some plumbing has been done!, so ferrying water from upstairs is no longer necessary. There still a bit more to be done before food preparation can actually be done in the kitchen though #FMS_Bottle26

The "In a Spin" launderette in Camborne, a one-storey building with large windows, two of which have pictures of jaunty washing machines
#FMSPAD 3/3 A building: Damnit, back here again. The plumber due yesterday arrived today, but departed after much frustration with too narrow gaps. A new hole will be cut in the cupboard back tomorrow, and we might finally have a working washing machine (and dishwasher (and sink!)) #FMS_Building26

A rendering of a kitchen design. On the left, a worktop with a sink over some base units. On the right, some wall and base units, and the silhouettes of two cats
#FMSPAD 17/2 A favourite photo: Well, not quite, but I do like the way that cats were included in the renderings of our kitchen design, even though they don't look much like @holmiesathome.bsky.social #FMS_Photo26

A wine bottle poking out of a 150mm wide shelving unit in my still not quite finished kitchen. A strip of raffle tickets is poking out from under the bottle
#FMSPAD 27/2 On the shelf: This unit was a wider cupboard on the original plan, but the new wall to its left wasn't properly accounted for and the cupboard on its right has the boiler in it, so that couldn't be changed. But it's somewhere to store my raffle prize from last night #FMS_Shelf26

A corner of my nearly finished new kitchen. A whitish worktop with coloured flecks, slightly dull looking copper backboards and oak cupboards. There are a couple of clear plastic bags holding plumbing parts on the worktop on the left, and holes for electric sockets in the backboards. The worktop to the right is covered by a protective mat, on which the sockets are waiting
#FMSPAD A colour I like: It's nearly done, and this copper is much brighter and shinier in real life #FMS_ColourILike26

#FMSPAD 23/2 A gift I've received: Sent rather optimistically just over a month ago as an early birthday present in anticipation of my new kitchen. I'm very grateful, but even had it arrived today, a couple of weeks early yet, it would still've been a few days before the kitchen is ready #FMS_Gift26

The almost but not quite yet integrated washing machine in my new kitchen. It's in the more or less right place (maybe needs to move back slightly) but the door panel hasn't been attached to the front yet, and the worktop above is also missing
#FMSPAD 22/2 At 5pm: I think that our new washing machine is technically useable now, but due to a farce with the door locking mechanism, the few bits needed to attach the outer door were stuck inside the drum until after the installer left #FMS_5pm

A commercial dryer in a launderette. Through the closed glass door, various clothes can be seen tumbling inside
#FMSPAD 20/2 What calms me: Watching my clothes flopping about at the laundry. I will be glad not to have to slog there on my bike in the rain, like I did today though. In theory, after a mere 7 weeks without, our new washing should be connected up on Monday #FMS_CalmsMe26

The current state of my kitchen. Most of the concrete tile effect flooring has been laid, and most of the base units are in place, but lack worktops. The tower units in the right have a visible oven and microwave in place, but they're not wired in or securely fastened yet. There are lots of building supplies on most of the available surfaces
After several weeks of living with a building site in the room next door, it suddenly started looking a lot like an actual kitchen today. None of this is useable yet, but light is beginning to shine at the end of the tunnel
