πŸ™ˆ many choose to see no evil, or don't care about what doesn't directly impact them, or self interest drives them to "keep out of it" or say they're "above" challenging their racist friend, but "My head can't tolerate this bobbing & pretending" youtu.be/JFGQdvYIJ0M?...

His sister's ghost appears to Francisco de Medici:

[Enter Isabella's Ghost]
...methinks she stands afore me... remove this object;
Out of my brain with 't: what have I to do
With tombs, or death-beds, funerals, or tears,
That have to meditate upon revenge? [Exit Ghost]

While the traditional pastoral idyll might be considered light, this contemporary poem speaks of bone-deep knowledge. This is no cosplay rustic, but a woman attuned to what "she already knows" 🧡3/3

Poem by contemporary writer Jack Thomas 🎨 'Italian Shepherdess' William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905)

from 'The Uncanny Shepherdess'

"There is a shepherdess down the road a ways...
Among the frost, in the dark of a lambing night
she is singing a song...
a balm against fear,
a thanks to the winter,
a come-hither glance and sly smile for spring

& we will all the pleasures prove,
That Valleys, groves, hills & fields,
Woods, or steepy mountain yields.

And we will sit upon the Rocks,
Seeing the Shepherds feed their flocks,
By shallow Rivers to whose falls
Melodious birds sing Madrigals"

The Alfred Jewel is believed to be an aestel, a pointer, used to actively follow a text. This would reinforce King Alfred's reputation as an erudite man. The dragon-like head forms a socket, in which a pointer (possibly made of ivory) would be fixed with a rivet. Rock crystal protects the figure, possibly a symbol of sight (& thus relevant to the practice of close reading) that is rendered in cloisonnΓ© enamel. This historically significant piece (created c. 871-899) is housed in the Ashmolean Museum

This golden inscription states: "Aelfred mec heht gewyrcan"/ "Alfred ordered me to be made". In keeping with the Old English riddling tradition, a voice is given to an artefact, in this case the Alfred Jewel. The dragon, also wrought in gold, perhaps protects the figure
