Many autistic people grow up correcting assumptions, defending intentions, and trying to repair misunderstandings

So yes - we may β€œover-explain” or β€œoverthink”

Not because we want to…

but because experience taught us to

Thank you! I will be so happy if I even get half of those :)

Dear autistic community,

May this new year be filled with:

- acceptable textures
- sufficient executive function
- people who don’t say β€œbut everyone’s a bit autistic”
- instructions that are actually complete
- being believed the first time ❀️

Thank you! And happy new year 😊 I hope 2026 is a good one for you ❀️

Aww thanks. I imagine it will be things like exposure to bright light (natural or via dedicated lamps you can buy) upon waking and shifting your bedtime very gradually over weeks/ months :) Melatonin helps too but I’ve not been able to get hold of it unfortunately

I am with you on this! I also think mashed potato belongs with sausages, not roast dinners πŸ˜…

Aww, that’s a lot! Which is your biggest struggle?

Aww thank you! I was trying to explain it to my mum only yesterday so this came at an especially good time, Samina 😊 I tried to get support for it via the NHS a few months ago but have had no luck so far so I’ve had to research strategies myself and try to manage it on my own

Thanks, I really hope I have more energy tomorrow and am in less pain. Aww, that sounds tiring but I hope it goes ok and you can collapse into bed soon after getting home. Good luck

Aww. Things can definitely be both enjoyable/ worthwhile… AND overwhelming! I’m glad there was some joy though

Aww, supportive relatives make the world of difference. Definitely need that kindness and lack of judgment, especially at a time like Christmas ❀️

Aww, me too. Yesterday was relatively quiet as I was too ill to celebrate this year yet I still feel drained today. I think it’s my CFS as well πŸ˜” Didn’t have long with my partner yesterday but am so glad I came home at the end of the night in order to recuperate today. I hope you feel better soon ❀️

That sounds so stressful 😩 Christmas can be chaos in the worst way πŸ’”

Aww, that sounds good! Hope you have a very relaxed weekend now 😊 What’s on that stream tonight? :)

Am seeing so many tired and overwhelmed autistics after Christmas Day πŸ’›

Friendly reminder:

- Rest if you need to
- Be alone if you need to
- Lie in a dark room if you need to
- Cancel plans if you need to

It’s okay to have needs, even if they don’t look like other people’s ❀️

Autism is internal: sensory experiences, processing differences, how we connect, and what helps us thrive

It goes way beyond the superficial, stereotypical representations out there

You may not see it all… but it’s real and it’s valid ❀️

Being AuDHD can mean living in extremes:

All-in… or checked out

Not hungry… or absolutely starving

Way too early… or running late

A cluttered home… whilst needing order

Wanting company… but far too overstimulated to socialise

Craving novelty… but also needing everything to stay the same 🫠

Things that help with autistic overwhelm:

- stimming
- routines
- special interests
- music/ headphones/ ear defenders
- low lighting
- weighted blankets & pressure
- pacing your energy
- taking breaks
- being gentle with yourself
- setting boundaries
- being around supportive people
- safe foods

Aww, staged photos can be really awkward and lead to some disappointing results >.< But you look so good in that photo. It is really cute and has your trademark glasses!πŸ˜„
