(To be clear though, I’d love to be wrong, this is all coming from a place of feeling jaded and disillusioned with the current state of things, but I hold out some hope it’ll eventually change)

Unfortunately I also saw what happened to ACNH when it remained true to the original idea of “take it slow and appreciate the facets of day to day life”

And I really don’t think it falling off so suddenly was due to lack of stuff to do in the game - it just isn’t right for a binge-game climate now

And to be clear, I think this is a good thing. This content-driven scale of popularity and success is all kinds of fucked and is also doing its part in killing the industry. I WANT to see more weird games and art that doesn’t strive to just make itself marketable, but prioritises the experience

Big “content creators” will rush through because there’s no way they can squeeze out engaging and interesting stuff otherwise

Which means it doesn’t last long, and they’ll quickly exhaust any creative input

The game just doesn’t seem to lend itself well to the current media climate

I’m glad that Pokopia is reviewing so well, but I still don’t see it having longevity

Especially with it being real time for constructing buildings & facilities. A lot of people will either grow bored and fall behind, and naturally fall off

There isn’t any special reward or fanfare for that achievement, which is a bit anticlimactic. Even just one of the cosmetic titles would’ve been nice, but whatever

I get the impression they will add more floors EVENTUALLY, but I’ll take this achievement!

And since I only had the one floor left, I decided to throw all my remaining Skill Gear resources at the Dark Tower, and I got my final clear!

It was rough and needed some cooperative RNG, but still not the WORST tower of the lot. But again, high investment was a requirement.

And then today, with the release of Anniversary Juliana, I cleared the Normal Tower!

What a ridiculous unit she is, floor 30 wasn’t even a challenge. Though having a partially Superawakened Mai and 5/5 Academy Gladion DID help. It overall is such a powerful team - the Normal-type is finally strong

Then I did some bouncing around, getting Dark and Normal Towers past floor 29

Bug walled me on the physical stages, but eventually I recovered resources enough to power up SC Barry. With a bit of luck I cleared those stages. Arc Alder made the rest of the tower a cinch, and I beat it on the 26th

Okay, I’ve some catching up to do

On Feb 6th I cleared the Grass Tower! This took waaay more investment than I’d have liked. Even with 5/5 Adaman, since I used so many Ever Pins for the Fairy Tower I could not squeeze out the damage I needed. I ultimately had to invest a LOT in Brassius and Carmine

Past that I’d then try one of the more modern games that’s a more story focused, like Black/White or Sword/Shield

Things can be overwhelming as it’s a big series now with a lot of gameplay adjustments and Pokémon, but you don’t need to know everything! The games are best enjoyed at your own pace

FRLG are VERY heavy handed with help screens and tutorials, but that does make them a good re-entry point! Don’t worry about getting too involved in the nitty-gritty of the mechanics as they get changed later anyway - just take it slow, explore and see if the games click for you by the end!
