Woah, that's a new one for me.
Oh yes, the classic!
I do find it slightly amusing that certain high impact Nature family journals request reviews by returned in 14 days yet, recent experience shows, it typically takes their *full time paid editorial staff* the same amount of time to desk reject/send a paper to review.
I love Sweden but its bureaucracy is a farce. 4 years ago, when I lived there, I submitted an application for citizenship. I ticked all the boxes. Today I received a decision: reject, obviously, because I no longer live there. Baffling that it took so long, and an EU passport would have been lovely.
Thanks @ect-uk.bsky.social and @rambleworldwide.bsky.social!
Proposal: submitted! π₯³ Whatever the decision of the review panel, I will, as ever, celebrate getting to this stage.
Just submitted my abstract for the Power to the Peatlands conference. Anyone else from the peaty BlueSky community going? sites.google.com/view/power2p...
My attention has just been brought to the @naturalengland.bsky.social Green Infrastructure Map. Really cool to see the ditch networks in the East Anglian fens mapped at this detail.
"Submission to first editorial decision (median days): 9"
I'm an awful, compulsive manuscript status-checker haha.
A watched manuscript never moves past the editor...
New paper alert! π¨ Our new study shows that massive lakes in the Congo Basin are outgassing millennial-aged carbon. This challenges the idea that lake COβ only comes from modern vegetation.

Ended the week with a 1st author paper submitted. Really keen to see what the reviewers make of this one; it's a bit different. Watch this space!

I am totally here for these hashtags.
A damp (and mostly misty) day for a 10 mile stomp across Kinder Scout and Mount Famine in the Peak District.
Up to the Lake District today to recce some field sites for our first year undergrad field class.
IPS is great but this is such a flawed criteria. It toally excludes any PhD students over 30 (they exist!).
A cold day on a rewetted Welsh blanket bog with @laurabaugh94.bsky.social and @peatblogger.bsky.social, but great to get our GHG sampling underway for our @water4all-eu.bsky.social project ECO-WADE.

Prepping for peaty fieldwork. I MacGyvered a dipmeter with a cane, tape, and a Β£15 liquid level indicator for visually impaired people. Result!
A neat new pond/lake mapping paper from Germany

I turned 40 this week. Today, as a birthday present to myself, I finally dug my own pond. Looking forward to getting some plants in next.
Do you work on peatland carbon, hydrology, biodiversity, or restoration? Weβd love to see your research in our Special collection for Sustainable Environment! π§πΏπ§ͺπ

Peaty people: we're hosting a special issue in the Taylor & Francis journal Sustainable Environment. Do consider submitting to it - the scope is broad and multidisciplinary. think.taylorandfrancis.com/article_coll...

Our new ditch GHG paper now online in final view. A great team effort led by @tksilver.bsky.social with contributions from an all-star cast of supporting authors.

Haha, funny you should mention that. A bunch of us (including @fluvialbenthos.bsky.social and @grocherros.bsky.social) drafted a letter to the editor of the Frontiers journal and we managed to get it retracted. Annoying when it popped up again elsewhere.
