International Day for Countering Hate Speech | United Nations The United Nations recognizes the need to counter discrimination, xenophobia and hate speech. Hate speech incites violence and undermines social cohesion and tolerance. Therefore, 18 June was declared...

Today marks the UN Day for Countering Hate Speech.

Whether it’s racism, transphobia, ableism or any form of hate—none of it belongs in Jersey.

I’ll keep using my voice in government to push for inclusion, dignity and fairness.

To correct today’s @jerseyeveningpost.com.web.brid.gy

You don’t have to sell your home to get Income Support.

If you live in a suitably sized home, its value is not counted when we assess your claim.

Having a mortgage doesn’t automatically mean you’re not eligible to get help with living costs.

It was a real privilege to speak at the @unitetheunion.bsky.social reps seminar today alongside my @reformjersey.bsky.social colleagues.

During #VolunteersWeek, we recognise the vital role union reps play — often in their own time — supporting fairness in the workplace.

Today I’m proposing P.30/2025 — a small but meaningful change to make it easier for Islanders with a terminal illness, and their carers, to access financial support.

Bringing compassion and support when it’s needed most.

Today marks the start of #VolunteersWeek – thank you to everyone who gives their time for the benefit of our community.

Special thanks to our @ReformJersey Party Executive Committee who met tonight – all volunteers, all dedicated to making Jersey a fairer island.

Let’s talk about access, trust, and support — not just salaries.

Real leadership comes from values, principles, and policies, not pay packets.

Jersey isn’t a business. It’s a community. And leadership should reflect everyone in it — not just business people.

It suggests the people already elected, especially from the political left or non-business backgrounds, aren’t good enough. I reject that.

I’ve made financial sacrifices to serve this island. That doesn’t make me less qualified — it shows my commitment.

A quote in the JEP this weekend said Jersey needs better-paid politicians or we’re heading for a “leadership crisis.”

Let’s talk about what that really means. 👇

4/ We’ve helped end industrial action, improve housing policy, and modernise social security — but always grounded in our values.

For Reform Jersey, holding office isn’t about power. It’s about making Jersey fairer for everyone.

3/ Today, we hold more positions of responsibility:
• Minister for Social Security
• Minister for Housing
• Minister for Education & Lifelong Learning
• Assistant Chief Minister

We are helping lead government — without losing sight of why we’re here.

2/ At that time, Reform Jersey had one Minister and two Assistant Ministers in government.

Even in those roles, we put our principles first — supporting fair pay, public services and standing up to unfairness.

1/ On this day in 2018, Deputy Geoff Southern was removed from his post as Assistant Minister for Social Security — for backing public sector workers during a pay dispute.

It was a clear message: speaking up came at a cost.

I’m looking forward to attending the @RNIB #BrailleAndBeyond event at Jersey Library on Wednesday (21 May, 11am–3pm).

A great opportunity to explore how braille and assistive tech support blind and partially sighted islanders.

I was pleased to be able to sign a Ministerial Order this week to modernise Jersey’s income support law to better reflect our modern society and remove outdated references to conjugal relationships

The transformation of the playgrounds at Parade Gardens shows the strength of our parish system. I raised the issue of the outdated play facilities and funding, at our Rates Assembly in 2023. Less than 2 years later my daughter and friends spent hours playing on this new facility

Today, I signed the Ministerial Order to increase Jersey’s minimum wage from £11.64 to £13 per hour, from 1st April 2025. A significant step towards a living wage for all. I’m proud to deliver on a @reformjersey.bsky.social manifesto pledge and will continue to champion steps that support workers.
