I've not seen that one! I am intrigued that it was from a German point of view. Ooh...and I see from Wikipedia that Garth Ennis did a version of that in 2001! Thanks for the tip on that title :)

PT PhD student by night - interested in the representation of military aviators in popular culture. A librarian for the USAF by day. Easily distracted at all times by biathlon, geopolitical arguments, rugby, murder mysteries, or livestreams of airfields.

"Stalingrad...and the city died. But it was a living death. Citizens and soldiers took the awful corpse and nailed it to the firing line; put weapons in its dead hands, screwed rusting iron to bone." The writing of Garth Ennis is terrific. Boo to anyone who says reading comics isn't 'real reading'!
I am LOVING the Garth Ennis reboot of "Johnny Red" in the collection of "The Hurricane"! Keith Burns's art is awesome, and the alternate issue splash pages are gorgeous too. Only catch is a blonde Scouser with a Garth Ennis tone makes me picture John Constantine in the cockpit π
Post your favourite Lord of the Rings character. Wrong answers only.
What a beautiful sleeve!
Please tell me punching 'initiate' 'intercept' 'pigeons' does what it sounds like :)
Spending the day listening to Dos Gringos songs for the PhD stuff. Highly conscious that I'm sure if they knew some fat, middle-aged civilian woman in another country was analysing their work for academic purposes they'd be fucking horrified ;) Sorry, gentlemen. On the bright side noone reads PhDs.
Twai really is an artist! I love this
I followed you because you have a great scientist-cat, but you've been so impressive with the yoga. Not even the weight loss/fitness improvement (for which I congratulate you!) but the commitment to the program. I can never stick with new things I try, so you're an inspiration with this dedication!
Sounds like a good decision! I had a long leave & came back because I feared being gone 'too long' and losing my way...but in reality it was too soon and it took me another few months of flailing before I was able to work properly again. Trust your instincts, best wishes :)
Lindsey Graham vs Saudi Arabia had me going to the mirror to see if my pupils were the same size I was so concerned I'd somehow suffered a head trauma
It's weird to talk to some Americans (I repeat *not all Americans*) who seem to see literally everything through the lens of "Republican vs. Democrat". Talking about climate change/renewable energy here in the UK & getting "That's what Democrats want you to believe" in respose is bizarre.
Russians are buying MP3 players again with demand in February 2026 rising 23% because of the limits on mobile internet and access to streaming services and the censorship of songs that contain speech that's prohibited in Russia after March 1st 2026.

This is how I access Bluesky
A poured pint of Padstow Brewing Company's "Padstow Local" best bitter. Those with a keen eye might spot the pint glass has the sign of The Prancing Pony on it, because nerd. Doubling the nerd value by including to the side a couple of books on hieroglyphics for beginners. Not sure the beer will help my absorption of hieroglyphics, but it doesn't hurt to try.
There's A Lot Going On in the world and I'm meant to be writing dissertation chapter drafts BUT sometimes you just have to spend a little time in your Daniel Jackson era, drinking a Padstow Best Bitter, and then indulging in some Bridgerton to escape the news for a couple of hours.
Read. When you feel powerless, when you feel overwhelmed, when you find yourself doom scrolling, when you are bored. Just read. It's one of the most empowering acts. Read.
Project Hail Mary is fabulous & my go-to book for library patrons who say 'I've never read Sci-Fi, what can you suggest?' It's the perfect soft entry to sci-fi since it's really a book about humanity and generosity and love. I really really hope the movie does that justice :)
What is one of your ultimate comfort movies?

I couldn't find a gif for it, but "The Dish" :)

I'm intrigued by his cramped location. Surely that shelf of godswag has been added for this filming, else those filing cabinet drawers can never open? So where is the godswag normally? And the flags? In a drawer? Has he been banished to a supply closet?
I agree and go a little further on the writing. Writing forces you to make decisions in your thinking. Forces you to decide between competing ideas in your mind.
Since it's recommended here then perhaps I need to give the Coker book another try; read it a few years ago and wasn't particularly engaged, let alone convinced.
I could never be a journalist or a time-sensitive analyst; the CRINGE factor means I cannot listen to live speakers when what they're saying is excruciatingly embarrassing in every way.
This kind of thing should need to get a heritage assessment and exemption
Downside of growing the deployment moustache!
Agree x2. A concrete example of why 'gonna stop active duty doing postgrad work in subjects other than Flexing My Biceps Lethality' is a very poor decision.
