Why does our documentation suck? Easy. It’s not valued. I can tell it’s not valued because it’s:
* not discussed during hiring
* doesn’t appear in job req
* people are promoted without writing it
* it’s not included in definition of β€œdone”
* no shared place to find it
* no one accountable for it

πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹ I talk a lot about values. Particularly what companies/engineering orgs say they value because what’s on paper is, frankly, bullshit 99% of the time. What you value shapes everything and it’s easy to tell what’s real and what isn’t.
