Sordidovore, n. : one who desires to consume slop
When the Sapiosexuals show up you get the creepiest version of Captain Planet
I'm old so 2004 is contemporary enough to me ๐
It sounds interesting, I may have to try and hunt it down.
why the magic-is-just-technology variation upsets me so much is hard to explain because it's so close to the version I like.
I think it's because it lifts the veil. it destroys a liminal space by turning the lights on. you're viewing something intrinsically childlike through the eyes of an adult.
something about a world that was once ordered and logical having regressed to barbarism and only understood through gnosis is deeply mythic
and this is just better if you have genuine supernatural magic asserting itself through the cracks like nature reclaiming a dead city
the thing that makes magic cool is that it isn't & cannot be explained. the possibility space is unbounded.
this is why I prefer the LosTech era of BattleTech so much more than later eras. lost technology that no one understands, that could be/do anything? straight into my veins. pure mcguffinite.
like there is a through-line from Bakshi's WIZARDS to Adventure Time and that sort of worldbuilding feels rare now outside of children's fare, at least compared to the contemporary glut of D&D-alikes with Sandersonian plug-and-play hard magic
stock high fantasy wizards casting spells with nanomachines? ew, gross
but 1970s fantasy was willing to experiment with fairytale storytelling in fallen high tech worlds in a way we've kind of lost since then, I think there is more to mine there than the worn out swords-and-horses tropes
idea worth stealing ๐ค
Does that say 4x 45mm cannons? ๐ณ
It says "mitrailleuses" instead of "canons" so I wonder if it's 15mm. 45mm would be crazy.
IDK yet what's gonna happen with the PPC.
Much as I hate the eastern mecha trope of robots with giant handguns, it's so iconic to the Griffin that it feels wrong integrating the gun into the arm as appropriate to a western mecha setting.
No offense to Scroggins, of course, he does great work. But on the Griffin that look feels like they covered a Roundfacer toy in cut foam as lawsuit armor.
It looks good on a painted mini but at full scale it looks like a 12 meter tall game mini.

Torso sketch.
Simplifying BattleTech's Griffin to something that'd work in a low-poly style for a ground unit in a theoretical AeroTech game
It's probably going to hew closer to the Roundfacer art, I find the MWO version too greebly and the Catalyst one feels too...foamcore?
yeah but they are both 13 so it's fine

serious answer: the Kuwaiti pilot must have mistaken them for MiG-29s at a distance
why IFF didn't stop this I don't know. maybe a lack of communication between allies for secure IFF codes?
this is why I think "low-vis" markings/camo are actually stupid and counterproductive
Pallas Athena the goddess of strategy really fucking hates fascism, it makes all your cool shit not work

if thousands of hours of War Thunder taught me one thing, it's "red dots are targets, blue dots are enemies"
Didn't think I was going to actually outlive Microsoft but here we are
The fun part is it doesn't need to be all that accurate.
Just accurate enough that users place enough trust in its abilities to enable witch hunts.
Any of y'all ever recalled past life memories?
And *still* no playable Squadron 42
On the bright side, it's been so many years since I gave Clown Imperium a dime, that the card I used has literally expired a couple times over and none of my contact info is valid.
