the Washington Post layoffs are remarkable but in particular stunned by them getting rid of all their photojournalists. the visual journalists in the Sun-Times/WBEZ newsroom elevate our storytelling and journalism each and every day. I cannot fathom a newsroom vision without them.
It's been a few years since the paywall was taken off the website. Users may see a pop-up with a request to donate, watch a 30-second video on our mission or provide their email address, but they shouldn't have to pay to read any article unless they'd like to donate
Hi, Sun-Times + WBEZ newsroom staffer here — We actually do not have a paywall, our content is free for all and donations are optional. As an independent nonprofit news organization we're supported by our paid members and donors.

it is Fleet Foxes season
Woke up this morning especially disgusted with the Democrats' capitulation on the Obamacare tax credits issue. An egregious abdication of their responsibility to their constituents in order to try to deal with GOPers who will never, ever work with them. trib.al/oFVFKEf
"Deportation has taken away the father I once knew and given me back a person I no longer recognize."
Personal, powerful writing from my colleague Vanessa Lopez on how her father and family have been affected by his deportation.

Telling of how out of touch Colbert is at this point that he thinks everyone considers him an important progressive voice. Being centrist lib is like your whole thing, man!
Astonishing levels of selfishness here when trust in the party and the system are already low.
please someone save Portillo's from whatever happened to it the last 5 years chicago.suntimes.com/work/2025/09...
This is like how people who watch Succession think everyone watches Succession but actually the vast majority of people just watch NCIS on CBS
Naked Gun at the drive-in was a throwback and such a blast, my favorite scene is near the end when Frank and the villain have a showdown that results in a bit so silly and hilarious I couldn’t think straight for 30 seconds
Appreciative of Jon Stewart and The Daily Show for amplifying a Jewish perspective on Gaza that needs to be part of the conversation youtu.be/X5kXCdzt_us?...
Ate an everything bagel dog for breakfast, happy Sunday in Chicago
It’s kinda amazing to see when the DNC decides to care about its procedural rules versus when it doesn’t
Happy baseball day to those who celebrate
On a sad Friday morning, here is a lovely farewell to the many Sun-Times staffers leaving today.
There is no getting around it — the talent vacuum created by these losses will require a lot of us to step up like never before. We hope to deliver for you all.

praying that my AU Eagles win this evening so that I can watch them get demolished by Duke later this week
Thirty employees of the Chicago Sun-Times — around one in five on its payroll — have agreed to resign after a buyout offer.
The departures primarily affect writers and editors, many of whom have extensive experience at the newspaper.
Some deeply sad days at the Sun-Times seeing so many of my talented colleagues taking buyouts to leave the organization. These are devastating losses of talent and institutional know-how, and Chicago will be worse off without them doing their work.
this man is truly one of the funniest people to ever live
I love that these moves set up the Bears to have no excuse in Caleb's development.
They got the best offensive-minded coach available. They aggressively turned over the entire IOL after a disastrous season. The weapons in place are still reasonably appealing.
Now it's up to Caleb to be great.
What a beautiful little movie Flow was, easy to see how it won so many awards
probably never been more amazed by a new piece of tech than when I first got a PSP
"Introductory rate" that's already twice as much as the CTA bus fare
finally watching Succession and I still cannot stop laughing about Greg's Congressional hearing testimony, "If it is to be said, so it be ... so it is"
missed Connor O'Malley tickets I have badly dropped the ball
you don't get to trade Luka Doncic and if you do the basketball gods should punish you
not to laugh at another team and player's misfortune but the Mavericks having this blow up in their face in every conceivable way feels like the world functioning properly for once
