Hello! It's been a while since I poked my head in here. How is everyone?
Hello! It's been a while since I poked my head in here. How is everyone?
I have just passed my full radio license exam. Hooray!
Full radio license exam booked for 24th June. Eeek.
Not as active here as I am on Mastodon so I have some news.
Been doing the full license course and hope to take the exam in about two weeks. As Ofcom is re-issuing some G calls now hoping to get a G prefix should I pass.
Next thing I learn radio wise is, I think, going to be morse.
Orange and white cat curled up in a cardboard box that's too small and has torn on a corner
Orange and white cat back in his box which is being held together by bodge tape.
Robert broke his favourite box last night so I sprang into action and fixed it. Happy cat!#catsofbluesky
A few months ago I sold a radio to ham who had been off air for some time. This evening I bumped into him on 40m and apparently I'm entirely at fault for getting him back into the hobby.
Excellent!
I'm using Edge as my browser at work at the moment. Small yet really quite irritating issue is the integrated spell checker defaults to US English even though the system it's on is set to British English.
My FTM-400 has developed an odd bug where if I press and hold the DX button on my local wires X repeater, the radio defaults to listening on the repeater input. It does this even after a factory reset. See attached.
A cat in a box. Robert is very keen on this box too.
Also looking at sneaking in an EFHW for 80m to see if I can get away with it. Want to get something up for 4m too.
In other news, I start my full licence course soon. It's about time to be honest.
The mobile antenna is dual band and as I now have a spare rig (FT-7800) I think I will probably see if I can get into our new local packet node.
A picture of my home base radios. A Yaesu FT-450D, an FTM-400 and a Motorola DM4600 UHF for DMR only
A picture showing my FT-5D and FTM-400
A picture showing my antennas. Diamond X-50N, mobile antenna for 2/70 as secondary and just visible is my 4:1 balun and random wire for HF
Hello! It's been a while since I posted here. The home station has had some upgrades recently so I thought I would share. Was able to get an FTM-400 and FT-5D for the price of the FTM-500, so score! Added a 2nd antenna for my DMR rig too. HF at the moment is provided by a 40ft random wire.
Helically wound antenna on the outside, loading capacitor at the bottom?
Spent three hours on Zoom with the local radio club. Had a good time actually.
Hello!
Anyway, hello everyone!
Been signed up for less than half an hour and already blocked someone offering me what appeared to be adult services.
Some introduction to a new platform. Let's hope this is a one off.
