I feel like the Powerup Comics audience has pretty much plateaued, I don't think there's really a lot of people out there who want a gamer comic parody and haven't found it yet. Am I still hoping to make something that gets big? Is that still a goal that I have? Do I want that?
"Smartest" as in "best way to get it done," not "an uncanny sense for what audiences want."
...Sometimes I start a side project, and then I can never actually keep up a side project. Smartest move I made in the last five years was to fold my idea for a Jane Austen spoof into the Powerup Comics brand.
I've been at this same crossroads to a lesser extent several times in the last decade and I never actually make a decision to change anything. I just keep on coasting with this same comic I started as a forum prank, because it has a following.
I've done Powerup Comics for almost 20 years. In another 20 years I'll be 60. Will I still even be funny then?
I've got all these comics I started in college. Are those the comics I want to be doing right now? Yes, but maybe less so now that I'm starting to feel like I have a limited number of multi year projects in me.
I feel like I need to take stock of my creative projects and think about what I really want to be doing for the next phase of life. Do I want to make Powerup Comics forever? Probably. Do I want it to be my main thing for the rest of my life? Probably not.
I talked to a guy at work about it and he claimed that Modest Mouse resents touring the Midwest and always phones it in here, so maybe if you don't live in the Midwest they're worth seeing. But I wouldn't take that as gospel because he kept confusing them with Franz Ferdinand.

Saw Modest Mouse and they were so bad and disesengaged that I haven't voluntarily listened to them since.

I remember the same thing going around with autotune, people saying "all your favorite artists are using it, even the ones you think would never do that," and I thought, damn, if that's true, Jack White must have it on the wrong setting.
For future clarity, I will be limiting my personal definition of AI to only include tech that depends on data centers and stops working if you're offline. Don't care if spellcheck is a similar technology. If it's lightweight enough to be completely on my phone, it doesn't count.
My main caution is that you probably won't get better at something you've decided to lean on AI for.
I'd say I understand people using it for that and am not inclined to judge, but I'm protective of my own word choice and resent the idea that an AI can organize my thoughts better.
Had someone in a writing group tell me today that actually, every word processor is loaded up with AI features, so I'm all-in on AI if I'm not writing with pen and paper. And I can't tell if they were being ignorant or disingenuous.
Do I use AI? Yes. Sometimes I forget to not search things on google and have to scroll past the bogus AI answer.
I'm losing patience with people who justify whatever dumb thing they're doing with AI by insisting that "everybody" uses AI. Like there's this assumption that everyone else is secretly using AI for everything while judging them for it.

The first one was sappy about the mouse family, but pretty cuttingly cynical about America, and I felt like they balanced each other out. If it had been as consistent and focused as an average normal movie I'd say it was better than Fievel Goes West, but as it is I think they're about even.
