A good while ago, composer Dominic Haslam and I adapted Terry Pratchettβs Mort for the stage. Todayβs Substack is the opening number from the show: Mortβs father takes him to an apprentice hiring fair. open.substack.com/pub/jenifert... #GNUTerryPratchett #Mort #Discworld
Todayβs substack is What They Took With Them, my poem about what refugees have taken with them when they have to flee their home at a momentβs notice. Itβs harrowing, but the global refugee crisis is only getting worse. open.substack.com/pub/jenifert...

Crow! One of my favourites π
How many words are there where the animal stands in for an entire action?
WOLF: to eat quickly
HOG: to grab and keep more than your share
...I can't think of more. We have animal-plus-preposition, like 'rabbit on', but single-word metaphorical verbs? I love them and propose we create more.

20 years ago I wrote a play with a character who stammers, and recently revised it, then wrote this article for speech disfluency charity Stamma. I welcome ideas about how to do a workshop of it with actors who have speech disfluency that we could stream online.

This really is a perfect show. Very strong recommend for anyone who wants a fun, relaxed, entertaining, smart, joyful, engaging evening in a very relaxed and friendly environment that really isn't anything like theatre, and is simultaneously some of the best theatre I have ever seen.
I have a one-on-one theatre show called The Fairytale Library in which I gather snippets of story from people. Today, I've opened up the Library on Substack. Theyβre all different, and they remind me of a slightly more gentle version of Post Secret. jenifertoksvig.substack.com/p/the-fairyt...
