I use Southeast Asia's long historical position between the East Asian and Indian Ocean worlds to revisit foundational questions about the making of modern international order.

When the Thai-Cambodian border erupted this July, I hesitated to weigh in due to its sensitivity, but it struck at the core of my dissertation research. My op-ed looks at the logics of asymmetry and hierarchy behind this conflict. Grateful for the opportunity with @eastasiaforum.bsky.social
