The parliamentary inquiry is looking into accusations that the PiS government used the Pegasus software developed by Israel’s NSO Group to spy on politicians and other opponents. Former justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro had also ignored the parliament’s summons on health grounds, but after Pogonowski’s arrest on Monday he said he was ready to appear in parliament the next day to denounce an “unlawful attack” by Tusk. The justice ministry said last year that at least 578 people, including some politicians, were spied upon after the PiS government allegedly acquired Pegasus in 2017. Neither the previous government nor NSO Group have confirmed the purchase of the software which was designed to monitor suspects of terrorism and other serious crimes.
