Europe’s energy transition is well underway but it is far from uniform.
In 25 European countries, non-fossil fuel sources now generate the majority of electricity, a clear sign of how deeply clean power has penetrated the system.

As I type this, wind power makes up over 50% of our electricity generation, with solar (solar! In Britain! In February!) making up 20%. Gas is currently below 10%, behind nuclear. grid.iamkate.com

Nigeria and Kenya lead Africa’s push for electric vans assembled from Chinese EV kits
E-mobility companies in Africa are beginning local assembly of electric vans and taxis using Chinese-made kits and innovative financing to spread use of electric public transport across the continent.
“This feat is a clear signal that electric mobility in Nigeria is practical, scalable and ready for adoption,” Falaye said.
It is simple economics....
"EV charging costs average about $3 for up to 200 kilometers (123 miles), compared with more than $15 in petrol costs for similar distances."

🚨 Yesterday afternoon, wind power reached a new high on the island of Ireland: 4686MW, equal to 73.5% of electricity demand and 66.8% of total generation at the time.
The previous record which stood for just over two years has now been broken twice already this winter 🥇

Deep heat on our doorstep: Geothermal energy a realistic proposition for Ireland
‘Sleeping giant’ of the energy world ready to play part in providing affordable clean heat
“The Grangegorman site being developed by Technological University Dublin is an example of deep geothermal with the ability to heat a campus while weaning off gas. It has achieved 38 degrees at 1km so signs are good for a second 2km borehole.”

There is an abundance of wind on the Irish electricity system this morning and the network operator is imploring me to use energy. Wouldn't it be nice if it was cheaper?
My column today is an "explainer" on dynamic tariffs, which are coming this summer.

A beautiful milestone was reached in the EU last year: more electricity was generated by wind and solar than by fossil fuels for the first time. Ireland isn't quite there yet, but we're making good progress so hopefully by 2027 🤞🇮🇪
