I’m astounded that people can criticise the ethics of a generative AI company and then turn around and endorse a different generative AI company.
It sounds like, “Werewolves are dangerous — that’s why I only ever hire vampires!”

One of my favorite parts of last night’s election results.
The only Democratic talking point should be: we don’t abandon anyone.
This is a good response.

"A man free of patriarchy is a man who has found not only every woman's humanity, but one who has at last discovered his own. The actual path to liberation for lonely men is feminism—because pursuing an identity based on dominating others is self-isolating."

too many people are being waaaayyyy too consent manufacturing shaped right now dawg. they fucking blew up kids. if your gut reaction to what's going on right now is anything less than "holy hell this should never have happened and it needs to stop immediately" you need to do a lot of self reflection
we were probably all up last night staring at the ceiling with our own version of the same thought running on endless loop, but mine looked something like this:
I hate these people to a degree that feels simultaneously corrosive to the soul, and also the only righteous response to this kind of evil
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads: The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same... - Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
Congress must return immediately and vote to put an end to this war.
Every Senator should be on the record—the American people deserve to know which of their leaders supports another potentially bloody and costly war in the Middle East.
No war with Iran.
A digital drawing of author Maia Kobabe, a white nonbinary person with short brown hair wearing a patterned blue shirt, who scowls while holding up a copy of eir book GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR. Maia is saying: H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban my books, and any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps and say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

Let me be crystal clear on something: were this law to be passed, every one of the 13 states with Freedom to Read laws would cease to have those laws to protect them anymore.
We have poured so much energy into those state laws–which matter, hear me–but they are not going to solve the big issue.
You're...welcome? :p
A suspect line up on a yellow background but the heights are marked as things like "weirdo" "liar" and 5 ft. The entities in the line-up are surreal: a group of foxes leaping out of a top hat with an explosion of glitter (Cassandra Khaw); a stack of teetering televisions showing bright erratic colors, a 404 not found warning, and a portrait of Valiant Dorian, a brown skinned man, holding an animal mask to his face (Valiant Dorian); an anatomical metal heart hanging from a chain of violets (Jess Pendley); a porcelain bust on fire (Treavor Bettis); a composite figure prancing in a petal skirt with a head made of pink tentacles, surrounded by drawings of cute animals (Shanna Germain). To the left an eye in front of a hallway watches with the note "You must be this tall to seize the rins of reality" pointing at the height lines, with the game master's name underneath (Erin M. Evans). To the End of Reason: An Invisible Sun Actual Play on twitch.tv/dungeonscrawlers Mondats 5pm PST

I am so excited we're finally bringing #InvisibleSun to Dungeon Scrawlers!
I feel like midlist SFF is both vitally important and uniquely threatened right now because the midlist is where you find most of the queer, PoC, and otherwise marginalized authors. As well as a lot of really exciting books trying new things! Stuff that's not a "safe bet" but often a great read
Great thread on the effort to introduce a wealth tax in Washington
Matt Loschen, another former Microsoft guy who would pay this tax in PRO:
"I'm getting the opportunity to give back, couldn't be more proud to do so, why would I leave the greatest state in the nation who made me who I am, I'm not going anywhere & I'm ready to do the right thing & pay my share"
Want to read a flash fic from me? Let's gooo
The Epstein files document what many women researchers have long experienced but rarely seen laid bare so starkly: exclusion operating behind closed doors, shaping who gets funded, invited, mentored, and taken seriously. How many of these networks, norms, and gatekeepers remain in place?
Can we all agree that Chaotic Neutral are the real weirdos here? Biomatter in your book is going to render it unreadable if you’re not careful!
Everyone benefits from reading as widely as is possible or them. There is every reason for anyone to read books from any era and from different countries.
Anyone trying to limit reading or say it's only for this or that kind of person is sus.
I feel this way about pretty much all vaccine-preventable infectious diseases. You shouldn't be allowed to dump cyanide into municipal drinking water and you shouldn't be allowed to recreationally spread viruses around shared public spaces.

Lines of academy cadets, one in command red seated but at attention while in a wheelchair.
I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."
That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.
Chilling Effect by Valerie Valdes is a fabulous sci-fi romance series starter with a non-human love interest and psychic cats! It's only $1.99!

For Galentines Day, may we suggest reading this book about a girl’s girl from history and how she inspired Britain’s first large-scale women’s political movement ENTIRELY to take down her toxic ex? A relatable (literal) Queen. Pick up REBEL OF THE REGENCY wherever you get books rebeloftheregency.com
The image features a gradient background transitioning from pink to blue. Text reads "Introducing the Trans Bill of Rights" with an icon of a paper and pen.
A colorful infographic titled "What is the Trans Bill of Rights?" outlines four points with icons: protections from employment and housing discrimination, equal access to medical treatment without discrimination, legal recognition of gender identity, and the right to use restrooms aligning with a person's gender identity.
ICYMI: I introduced my Trans Bill of Rights with @markey.senate.gov — legislation to defend trans people across this country as Republicans continue to push anti-trans rhetoric and bills.
To our beloved trans community: We see you, we love you, and we will always stand with you.
I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it.
I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”
