"Logic!" cried the dying frog. "There is no logic in this." "I know," said the scorpion, "it is my character." Of course, sometimes the scorpion scowls fiercely and denies being a scorpion. The scorpion has no compunctions about lying, not a part of its character.

1981 rejected Gunnar Birkerts design for Loussac Library in Anchorage. Typical for Birkerts, natural lighting is a primary feature, here aided by a mirrored lens at the building's summit. From March 1987 Architectural Record. #alaskahistory #anchoragehistory #alaska

The Golden Comet was the signature cocktail at Club 25, an Anchorage bar open 1948-1982 & pictured in 1956. Recipe: one part each lime juice, orange curacao, & vodka. Blend with ice until frothy. Rub rim of martini glass with an orange slice, which becomes a garnish. #alaska

From the Nutty Professor (1963): an Alaskan Polar Bear Heater. Mind you, this is the Alaskan version, not the regular Polar Bear Heater. It reminds me of an awful take on a Long Island Iced Tea. I might make one for a future article on "Alaska" cocktails. #alaskahistory #alaska
