Wash yourselves clean!
Put away your misdeeds from before my eyes;
cease doing evil; learn to do good.
Make justice your aim: redress the wronged
hear the orphan's plea, defend the widow.

Come now, let us set things right
says the LORD:
Though your sins be like scarlet
they may become white as snow

Let the prisoners' sighing come before you;
with your great power free those doomed to death.
Then we, your people and the sheep of your pasture,
will give thanks to you forever;
through all generations we will declare your praise.

But the gift is not like the transgression.

overflow for the many.
And the gift is not like the result of the one who sinned.

Thus says the LORD:
If you remove from your midst oppression,
false accusation and malicious speech;
If you bestow your bread on the hungry
and satisfy the afflicted;
Then light shall rise for you in the darkness,
and the gloom shall become for you like midday;

This rather is the fasting that I wish:
releasing those bound unjustly
untying the thongs of the yoke
Setting free the oppressed
breaking every yoke
Sharing your bread with the hungry
sheltering the oppressed and the homeless
Clothing the naked when you see them
and not turning your back on your own

“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?”
