Malen just so good at getting into the spaces between/behind defenders
1-1 feels like the spiritually correct score for Parma-Cagliari
Note to self: leg day and fencing day should never overlap
More like UniversiBad imo
Also working on building this out for most of the other European leagues. Hoping to eventually use those for cross league comparison, aging curves, comparison for transfer values, etc
And for personal purposes, here’s the look at Roma’s squad last year. I separated players in to qualified/non qualified by minutes played. #roma
Obviously the biggest question then is “who are the good players” and I can say without a doubt that these were the best players in 2025 and all other opinions are wrong
(Part of this is also just confirmation that the xT model is working okay, I think)
Also wanted to compare the sum of the impact for players and how it compares to team performance. Weighting by minutes played, the xT net for players explains about 75% of the variance in goal differential.
Overall the net impacts were more stable than the off/def only sides. Also not a surprise: players that played more had more stable numbers. Here’s correlation for each stat by minutes cutoff for all players. These improve by a few points if you restrict to players that remained on the same team
Put together some basketball-style on-off ratings for xG and expected threat (xT) for Serie A. Not huge correlation for players with minimal minutes, but looks a little better when you set the cutoff using FB Ref’s qualifying thresholds (30 mins per match)
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IS THE BEST COUNTRY TO EVER EXIST IN THE SPORT OF HOCKEY.
Same story but for Romeo and Juliet.
I wrote about the Fire and have some pretty big questions about how they're going to fill a Brian Gutiérrez-sized hole in the team.

Second straight Super Bowl in which a dude named Drake has been mercilessly bullied
I think you could make an argument that he had control when it touched the ground but I understand ruling it incomplete
Would agree with everything in here. The @americansoccerinsights.com summit was a great experience all around.
10/10 recipe. I know a recipe is a winner when both kids ask for seconds.
We had so much fun at the @americansoccerinsights.com Summit last year, we had to come back for another live pod! We were joined by @catabush.com and Houston Dash analyst Chloe Dhillon for a great talk about the state of data in the women's game, for the public and for teams. Enjoy!
@iankarmel.bsky.social I have a question for the AFE crew: If you were in the Olympics, would you rather walk in with a huge team like the US, or a team that only has like 2 people?
Happy Ratboys day to all who celebrate
LOL I created an account months ago and then just left it dormant for forever, so it’s not as if I’ve been super active with it.
@therealhrdlicka.bsky.social looking for food recs for Vegas. Got anything? Most of the recs I’ve gotten so far have been Asian food so if you have any other cuisines I’ll gladly take them
It’s so good at this. If you’re able to clearly explain what you want or need something rewritten, it can save so much time.
Imagine making transfer offers for players based solely on these ratings
The Comedy of Errors is what you’d get if Shakespeare wrote a 3 Stooges movie
Fancy Stats commissioned a bunch of articles about the 2018 World Cup from American Soccer Analysis writers.
I will not apologize for any contribution I have made to the shift from open play to set piece scoring.
