A poem for my last day working at the writing center for the semester (by Joseph Fasano)
Please be introduced through this poem to the wonderful @haolunxu.bsky.social.
“What else is there?” Mrs. Murry’s voice was low and anguished.
“There are still stars which move in ordered and beautiful rhythm. There are still people in this world who keep promises."
A Wind in the Door
I saw Fall Guy today. It falls squarely into my favorite category of studio film, which is "Better in almost every area than it has to be." Perfectly cast leads, a script with funny touches that don't feel algorithm-dictated, nice shaggy-dog pacing. This should be the H'wood mean, not an anomaly.
Statement from President Biden on the Passing of Henry Kissinger Home Briefing Room Statements and Releases I’ll never forget the first time I met Dr. Kissinger. I was a young Senator, and he was Secretary of State—giving a briefing on the state of the world. Throughout our careers, we often disagreed. And often strongly. But from that first briefing — his fierce intellect and profound strategic focus was evident. Long after retiring from government, he continued to offer his views and ideas to the most important policy discussion across multiple generations. Jill and I send our condolences to his wife Nancy, his children Elizabeth and David, his grandchildren, and all those who loved him.
This statement from Biden about Henry Kissinger is one cold-blooded shiv of a paragraph, to a degree that I truly didn't expect we were going to get.
I'm impressed.
I will give you candy if you are 47 years old. If your kid wants a different candy than the one I handed them, I will give them the different candy. If your kid wants to trade the bendy skeleton I dropped in their bag for another color, I will do it. May we all be greeted with joy and generosity.
I'm almost a year late to this, but I just binged the UK reality-competition series The Traitors on Peacock and it was absolutely riveting; I haven't loved this kind of show as much since S1 of Survivor. If you have any taste for backstabbers-in-our-midst drama (or reality), it is diabolical heaven.
Reminder that if you see disturbing or traumatic images, playing Tetris as soon as possible afterwards can help the brain cleanse itself, and lessen the impacts of it longer term.
No, I'm not kidding. And no one knows how or why it works. But it DOES work, and I encourage you to remember it.
What a terrific mentor text, ELA friends!
“These feints at humility are ridiculous, and, at this point in Swift’s career, they are spectacularly ridiculous—grand and outlandish, which is to say, befitting of a megastar.”
Undeniably. Start from the beginning.
What We Do In The Shadows is the most consistently funny show on TV, likely.
It is the 12th anniversary of the Sudden Departure. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.
Samuels Library in Virginia was defunded after the far-right group “clean up samuels library” made a list of books and demanded their immediate removal. My book, A Snake Falls to Earth, is on the ban list. It is the first book by a Native author to win a Newbery honor.
On my book, A Snake Falls to Earth.
Less than 10 years ago you could walk into any Brother Jimmy's BBQ in da city of Manhattan and order a 3 dollar margarita - you could order 5! The mellifluous sounds of Everclear wash over you Those days are gone This is what Eric Adams and Real Estate Capital have taken from us
About as perfect as a series can be. What always strikes me, aside from John’s enthusiasm for everyday people, is how much he can do with simple requests and the power of saying “Yes.” A great interview with a true pioneer.
They fired Drew from hosting the awards.
Thanks to the National Book Foundation for having our backs.
the first issue, DYNAMITE MEETS M*A*S*H and it has a photo of Radar and Hawkeye on the cover.
it's the same cover, except it's the cast of 90210
can we talk about how Dynamite Magazine ran for 18 years, spanning the entire second phase of youth culture development, and did not once change its design
Count Dracula on the damn Love Boat, can you believe this shit?
