Woohoo! 🎉 Such a relief. And such a good photo of Jockie as well

I don’t think the people playing pokies in Australia are the same demographic as the ones going to Vegas tbh. After all, Aussie casinos are heavily reliant on Asian high rollers besides Bruce and Sheryl gambling their pension away. But AU-US market is still big enough and QF will have the data so 🤷‍♂️

I am not saying people make decisions to buy or not to buy the pass based on those small trips. But once you have the pass and make a decision which line to take, the “free” one on JR with two changes vs the direct one for a few bucks, it puts you in a psychological pickle as stupid as that might be

There are three hundred other examples where this would apply, this was just the first one I thought of. Tokyo: take the Yamanote instead of a Metro line that cuts across town, Kyoto to Nara Park, Shibuya to Yokohama etc. Anyway.

Sure it won’t break the budget, but psychologically if you’re in Umeda and want to go to Kawaramachi, if you have the JR pass most will take JR to Kyoto Station because it’s paid for when Hankyu would be the logical choice. That’s the kind of psychological capture I am thinking of with the pass

Anyway, we don’t need to agree, I buy passes (mainly regional ones) if they pay off as well and they can be amazing value. As is all of Japan compared to Australia at least

becomes captured to the JR trains and takes them over other other options that might be better/faster (Keihan and Hankyu between Osaka-Kyoto go example). Also, it’s a physical ticket and losing/misplacing it two days into your trip is a costly mistake that can happen. And buying ind tickets is easy

We pretty much agree, all I am saying is that people should still make the math of individual tickets and not just assume the pass will save them money. If you travel enough, you will.

Where I don’t agree is on the convenience: doesn’t include alles fast trains on the Tokaido-Sanyo, and one /1

The main reason why it may not be good value is not the actual cost compared to other destinations, but the fact that for an average traveller with a reasonable itinerary the cost of individual tickets will still be even less. If you go all in on trains for a week, by all means it is great value!

Such a beautiful tribute, thank you Mr First Dog. And sorry for your loss.

PS: I had to laugh at the Roy anecdote, I remember it well! Good ol'Roy.

I’ve been avoiding the one of Renee Good’s murder and I’ll try and avoid this one too. But the stills I’ve seen are absolutely horrific, and it is a good thing that they are out there disproving the lies and smear campaigns

Shushed away the male superb fairy wren earlier as it was making a mess fighting their mirror image on our kitchen window. Half an hour later, I hear someone tapping at the window behind me in my home office. He stared me in the eye, tapped some more, then flew off. Smallest bird, biggest character

Bridge Road Brewers "Free Time", the yellow Heaps Normal "Half Day Hazy" and Pirate Life "South Coast Pale Ale Ultra Low" are the best of the widely available options in my view

Cute! We're having one of his Victorian cousins "attack" his mirror image in our kitchen and living room windows since last week making an absolute mess every day. Need to try and catch it on video

100% agree. The inside of a Tesla is such a cheap plastic desert, it’s tragic

27.11.2025 07:58 👍 7 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

Merc as well as BMW, Audi can charge more in Germany simply because of the brand perception and the market favouring German-engineered/built. They charge what they can get away with, above BMW and Audi. Nobody in Germany will compare a Tesla to a German premium brand, it's apples v a mouldy lemon
