Ending this operation is not enough.
We need justice and accountability. That starts with independent investigations into the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, economic restitution for businesses impacted, abolishing ICE, and the impeachment of Kristi Noem.
Walz: "The federal government needs to pay for what they broke here. There's going to be accountability on things that happened, but one of them is the incredible and immense cost borne by the people of this state. The federal government needs to be responsible."
There's a certain strain of "I was able to create myself into a demigod through my own hard work" that seems easy to turn into the kind of individualistic exceptionalism that makes your politics toxic.
If you're from outside MN and feel weird about sending a "Hope you're okay!" text to someone here, don't. Haven't talked since high school? Ex-coworker from 6 years ago? Already sent one a week ago? Doesn't matter.
Every time I get one it's a big relief that people are paying attention.
You have the enemy on the run! Would you like to:
->Press the advantage and attain total victory
->Reach out to them for a noble compromise
gee whiz it would be really great if the opposition party smelled blood in the water right now and went on a full offensive to harness this spark of momentum

Not that we donβt protest too β we do β but Renee Good and Alex Pretti (and those who witnessed and documented their executions) were legally observing ICE kidnappings and alerting their neighbors to ICE presence. Itβs not a protest, itβs a public service. Itβs how weβre protecting our neighbors.
We are observers, not protestors. We show up to document and film the atrocities ICE is committing. Using 5 year olds as bait. Kidnapping senior citizens. Breaking down doors without warrants. Murdering poets and nurses. Media has all of that information because *observers* were there to document it
One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!
they're executing moms and nurses in the street. they're using preschoolers as bait. they're stealing people's dads and grandmas and children. they're tear gassing babies. they're staking out schools. there is no remedy but abolition. any proposal that doesn't start there is an act of violence.

A lot of the media has messed up in describing all of these folks who are observing as protesters, theyβre neighbors who quickly come out of their homes to document ICE presence knowing that their privilege is the only thing possibly standing in the way of a neighbor being disappeared or brutalized.
A fact that's hard to believe for many people outside of MN:
I have to be vetted to join my local signal group that patrols our local elementary to keep federal agents from kidnapping students bc those same feds are infiltrating those chats to better target vulnerable people for abduction.
I've never seen a population more united. If people can hold onto that unity, if people can accept that different people will have different ways of confronting fascism, if we can remind NGOs and orgs that they can join but not control the resistance, then, well, people here will write history.
I've been here 24 hours, but already with what I've seen, well, I genuinely believe we're going to win. People here are well aware that what happens here impacts the entire country, that it sets the tone for resistance. ICE is angry, ICE is terrified, of how deeply unpopular it is.
But when I asked an organizer what they wanted to see out of press coverage, they told me they wanted people to see the beautiful things they are building here, and not just the worst stories of the worst of ICE's crimes.
What people are doing here is beautiful. It's a tragic beauty, but a real one
I have been actively involved in protest movements for 24 years. I have never seen anything approaching this scale. Minneapolis is not accepting what's happening here. ICE fucking murdered a woman for participating in this, and all that did is bring out more people, from more walks of life.
I just want people to know that there is no active insurrection, no regular protests, no rioting or whatever. The only time people are in the streets is when masked armed ICE thugs descend on one of our neighbors to disappear them as part of a federal government-led ethnic cleansing campaign.
Definitely doesnβt exactly know where to go, but played super heads up, positive on some tip outs and loose balls
Yeah, Iβve been trying to imagine what any of them will say tonight when interviewed. Hoping to be surprised! Wouldβve been another great time for NAWβs thoughtfulness.

I will say that they pretreated really well the other night - the lanes were snow-free for a long time yesterday.
Weβre on a snow emergency route and they are just had not been plowing as much, as often, or as far to the edges this year.
I am ever surprised by the response to Acolyte. I came to it knowing almost nothing, thoroughly enjoyed it, went looking for news of S2, and was amazed at how differently I experienced it from most.
I like Great Divide guy for being a chromatic lantern too.
Big Short is realllly good. βSubprimeβ is the best I got.
That is *extremely* in our neck of the woods; it has been a real treat walking the dog lately.
That could be right at Easter, so I can see where he might have a conflict.
