The reason why politicians and admins won't use cost per FTE is that some of the most cost-effective programs are humanities and social sciences. Probably, also because numbers freak them out. It's easier to just say 15 graduates.
The university ecosystem that was created post WW2 is being destroyed. Large classes in 'service' departments were intended to help schools balance needs elsewhere. Completion metrics in many states will lead to a collapse of institutions because this isn't how managed cost per FTE works.

Not a judgment and IDK how you overcome it but...it's striking that every time a fresh national news story drops about ICE in the Twin Cities (ProPublica today), a lot of people respond with "Wow, I didn't realize it was that bad" and everyone in MN goes "Yes and it's a hundred times worse"
Absolutely. I hear the same at my CC. Reading instruction keeps getting chipped away in the curriculum, which our English faculty have been sounding the alarm about for a while now. It's tough.
I am begging you all. Please Please Please don't let this place be lost.
All that to say, I'd really like to see a more concerted effort to address attention span and long form engagement because all we have is one off efforts that are clearly not working on the whole.
I teach how to read journal articles in my survey courses. I can't take on teaching how to engage full length books/monographs bc I'm already teaching so many other skills from basic file management to metacognition. I have to hope they get that instruction in another class.
I think part of the anxiety is realizing how daunting it is to build in that instruction. I'm a history prof so I know how to teach reading in my discipline but not how to teach the fundamentals of reading. Tutoring options are geared more toward writing and assignment help.
It's not just ICE leaving Minnesota, it's stopping this authoritarian test case right here -- not just sending it to Wisconsin or Colorado or Maine. So that is my plea to the United States Senate: stop *all* business as usual.
An appropriate reaction to the federal government attacking a WHOLE STATE -- murdering, disappearing, brutalizing, kidnapping our neighbors isn't to just haggle over the funding for one agency. It's to stop all business as usual until this ends.

There has been an increasing sense in Minneapolis that we are on our own, that our elected representatives are unwilling and/or unable to take action to get these murderous Nazi thugs out of our community. I really hope that changes today. The time for pleading TV hits ended weeks ago.
I'm cynical, but how many of these will translate into wins? Voters/industry get to congratulate themselves for nominations-as-recognition but are likely to withhold the actual awards.
