Metrolinx sheds 400-plus consultants as agency grapples with growing mandate | Globalnews.ca
Michael Lindsay was tapped to lead the Crown corporation in 2025, tasked with refocusing its mandate and bringing years-delayed transit lines into service for the first time.
Glad to see Metrolinx reducing reliance on expensive third party consultants and building more in-house expertise!
If Ontario is going to spend $70 billion to build out “the largest transit expansion in North America,” we must build the institutional knowledge to do so effectively & efficiently.

i spent all summer organizing for dedicated transit lanes against typical toronto nimbys who claimed that "emergency vehicles would get stuck in traffic and more people would die"
anyways, here's real life:

Is it really so hard for Mark Carney to say something like this instead of constantly defending US breaches of international law?

University of Waterloo is leaving Twitter. We need all Canadian colleges and universities to do the same if they're still there. The Canadian social site Gander would be a good option. 🍁

Replacement double blade switch assemblies with built in electronic controls with transponders and heaters are what should be on display at a Canadian rail transit conference in my opinion. Wouldn’t you think so too?

If you don’t think that separatism is not causing Alberta reputational and investment damage, think again.
Germany’s leading magazine highlights the instability.

Douglas Todd: Jarring 18-storey tower on leafy Vancouver street a sign of the out-of-scale times
About 10 steel-and-glass highrises, much like the one proposed for Yukon and 14th, are set to arise among character homes within the Broadway plan zone.

Douglas Todd: Hundreds of quiet east Vancouver side streets upzoned for six-storey apartment blocks
Some residents in the vast Rupert and Renfrew area did not know their pleasant side streets had been upzoned for six- to eight-storey apartment blocks. It calls into question the city of Vancouver's murky "engagement strategy."

'Monstrosities' or the evolution of housing? Multi-unit buildings on single-family lots gain traction in B.C. cities
The number of multi-unit developments on single-family lots is increasing in B.C. neighbourhoods dominated by single-detached houses. Opinions vary over what these changes will mean for communities.

I oppose this building because it's too tall
It's just this building, not all new housing?
You are not against all new housing, right?
A storey in four acts as captured by local news media:
18 storeys is too high, we’d be fine with 4-6 storeys
6 storeys are too big, we'd be fine with multiplexes
Multiplexes are monstrosities, we are fine with existing post-Second World War bungalows

Vietnam is on track to overtake Canada as a source of U.S. imports
Asian country’s exports to U.S. soared 42 per cent in 2025
Not only that, but the U.S. is also Vietnam’s top export market, not China. If Vietnam can successfully avoid over-dependence on its giant neighbour, why can’t Canada? A message for continental determinists.

"The system's power comes not from its truth, but from everyone's willingness to perform as if it were true, and its fragility comes from the same source. When even one person stops performing, when the greengrocer removes his sign, the illusion begins to crack"

Dozens of districts where the conservatives are simply not competitive but people still tactically voted for this man.
They better learn, or Canada will become a 2-party system and a 51st state in all but name.

Lots of academics I really respect are highlighting this misunderstanding, which I’ve apparently also fallen prey to.
But there’s an important point here:
What did Carney think laymen would take away from his speech when he spoke of taking a sign out of a window in the face of a bullying regime?

Sometimes complaints about apartments talk about the lack of green space or how parks end up next to busy roads. "Why can't we have courtyards?" people wonder.
Yesterday, a TCHC proposal with a courtyard got called a prison yard. People just misusing words to make any negative association they can.

BART proves that more policing =\= safer transit (or the perception of safety)
it's more overpoliced than TTC, but means nothing because the underlying issue is the bay has a more dystopian housing crisis, there is little shelter space, & public services (esp health) in the US is abysmally funded.

Councillor Kandavel is dreaming if he thinks young families can buy bungalows. They are snapped up by builders who replace them with expensive monster homes. So much for "neighbourhood character" -- except giant houses are OK 'cause they keep renters out, right?
