Trump has fiscal munchausen syndrome. Tear up all his trade relations so countries have to pay attention to him. What will be next? Nuclear threats?

Just for perspective, before Trump started the trade war China's tariffs were on average 5% higher than the US (8% vs 3%).
Today it is China 85% vs US 105%
So when you hear "China had unfair tariffs!" think 5%
Ignoring policy and political differences, this is what considered, measured, intelligent leadership looks like. It used to be the norm
lest we forget
Thoughts? Sounds a reasonable analysis to me
By stalling the world economy including manufacturing and vehicle production Trump becomes the biggest individual contributor to reducing climate emissions since Nakamura invented the blue LED π€£π€£
Aren't tariffs are on imports not exports? So it would be US lamb that would be taxed?
Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us. So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.
james surowiecki has discovered where the completely fabricated trump tariff rate has come from for each country
"...for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us."
In a country where 50+ Muslims were murdered by a white supremacist this is beyond disgusting and inexcusable. And stupid.
The Corporatist Revolution has begun in American. The scary question is whether Trump is Stalin or whether he's only Lenin and Stalin is yet to come
The craven meglomaniacs have done it. There is no egotism like American egotism
I'm saying this as somebody who's been at a lot of protests in NZ: if violence starts, it is *always* Destiny Church. Consistently. The only times I've been assaulted are by Destiny Church members. They are not a church, they are a violent hate group and people need to wake up to it.
When the building is burning you don't yell "These flames will have long term detrimental effects on the structural integrity of this edifice and are completely counter to the principles of its occupation". You yell "FIRE".
For him "LIAR" "THIEF" "MOLESTER"
The rest is implied
The only response I can imagine that might be long term effective is for all to ignore his (and his hench-people's) actions and focus on him and them in the simplest terms.
"When they go low, we go high" = when they go low we miss the point entirely and let them carry on while we inhabit a different planet.
He is a predator and responding with cries of democracy, rule of law, fairness, Constitution and, like the squawks of a chicken in the mouth of a crocodile, by the time they are heard they are useless.
Trump's playbook is brilliant and almost unassailable - "I am all powerful, intelligent, all seeing, wise and I am also a victim of the pathetic left, the courts, politics". He is fuelled by inherent contradiction and the absence of both logic and compassion
Mowbray is so thick, he doesn't think about how all the govt cuts and the benefit cuts are happening to his CUSTOMERS! How will they buy his shitty little plastic products when they have no money at all?
Did same deliberately recently and agree. When done this in the past always changed back but it must have improved its search algorithm
Screenshot of the Life at NASA website from 2024. One sentence states 'We share a set of core values - safety, integrity, teamwork, excellence, inclusion - and they are evident in all that we do.'

Spot the difference.
Had same question. Only implication was objection to use of agriculturaly productive land
the One True Lesson you learn from talking to policy makers is that most folks vastly over-estimate the importance of grand masterplans in changing world, and underestimate the role of improvisation, misunderstandings, office politics, blunders and unexpected discoveries in actually shaping outcomes
Canadian MP Charlie Angus: He choked.
The market started to tank, and suddenly, he said, βOh, didnβt you guys already have a plan to deal with the border back in December? I love thatβIβll take that.β
This is Mr. Art of the Deal.
Shame it is too late. Democratic processes are too slow for those who do not abide by democratic processes, e.g., the law. Also, break the law and be pardoned. Too easy
Let us know when theyβre publicly screaming
Donald J. Trump @realDonald Trump Anybody that's against Tariffs, including the Fake News Wall Street Journal, and Hedge Funds, is only against them because these people or entities are controlled by China, or other foreign or domestic companies. Anybody that loves and believes in the United States of America is in favor of Tariffs. They should have never ended, in favor of the Income Tax System, in 1913. The response to Tariffs has been FANTASTIC! 1.04k ReTruths 3.73k Likes Feb 02, 2025 at 6:37 PM
As someone who speaks βfar right wingnut,β I feel obligated to point out that the creation of the federal income tax in 1913 has been an obsession with such folks since the1950s. They mark it as the moment America went off track and started careening toward socialism, and they want to get rid of it.
Trump's tariffs suppressing demand, stifling trade and reducing consumption could be the greatest climate change initiative of any government #unintendedconsequences
Corporate sovereignty is the seemingly inevitable progression in Western politics. Government as a business, not a civil service, and us as consumers, not citizens
There are fewer news items about ACT Party's Tim Jago being convicted of sexually abusing minors, than of ex MP Golriz Gharaman being questioned at a supermarket. π€¬
