I canβt with these people π π
That we have π
I hope this new generation of therapists, like you and I, can do what we can to bring it back.
Being With vs Doing To
Itβs created a fantasy of what therapy βshould beβ versus what it actually is.
CBT also seems to subside the therapistβs fear of not βdoing enoughβ to the client. Teach a few skills and you can pat yourself on the back for a job well done. CBT+Managed Care has diluted psychotherapy down from an exploratory process of understanding a clientβs psychology into βfixingβ them.
Hoping for that too!
Iβm about 4-6 cxs away from being able to quit my second job π
I used to think to myself 10+ years ago that the US would have to get a lot worse before it got better. That was a much easier pill to swallow as a hypothetical than as a reality.
Weβre cooked.
I think the only thing that will save us is a nationwide general strike.

No they clarified later in the thread it was 15 times in 18 months due to client not rescheduling for up to 6 weeks at a time.
Itβs baffling how many therapists think healing can happen overnight or canβt conceive that some people donβt get better
Found the thread. Theyβve seen this person 15 times in 18 monthsβ¦..
Wtf are they teaching clinicians in some of these schools? π
Iβve officially joined the Evidence Based Therapist podcast as a co-host! Check out our latest episode where we dive into my research into the intersection of religious trauma and neurodivergence

Oooooooo!
some βbottom upβ change is effective for a system or person that orients too strongly to βtop-downβ implementation
some βtop downβ change is effective for a system or person that orients too strongly to βbottom-upβ immersion
#health means βdo bothβ
#growth expands capacity
Currently working on a psychoanalytic/somatic conceptualization of religious trauma and my brain keeps going off into a million different branches of thought. This is gonna be tough to whittle down π
Lmao amazing! πππΌ
Project Hail Mairy
The Expanse (full series and novellas)
The Captiveβs War (first book and novella)
I agree with that 100%. βToo much too soonβ is apropos here. That period is unique to our developmental understanding of self and other. We need an updated lexicon for talking about trauma presentations that allows for these nuanced differences
β¦developmental period out a bit further as well as highlight that repeated traumas, whether of the same kind or varied, does create a unique presentation of its own.
This reminds of the introjective/anaclitic split of βIβm badβ vs βIβm aloneβ except in this case it would be βIβm badβ vs βYouβre badβ.
I do agree though that Herman is speaking to developmental trauma when she speaks on complex trauma though I, personally, would conceptually extend thatβ¦
LMAO perfect reaction
I had the same thoughts. The entire framing of the questionnaire and the wording of the questions themselves opposes the entire concept of personality organization
Fantastic critique, Alejandra! Question #14 made me audibly LOL. Howβd I know Ruffalo would somehow have a question worded this way? π π
Itβs because the DSM is a highly objectified, categorical diagnostic system wherein autism best fits the Developmental Disorders category because the DSM completely fails in capturing the complexity of the subjective experience of being human whether thatβs autism, anxiety, depression, etc
I donβt know what that means but Iβm intrigued! π
How do you like the Remarkable? A few clinicians at my office use them and Iβm realllllly considering one
