I've been on vacation so I haven't been able to do any fursuit work, which has given me far too much time to spend fine tuning this doberman's markings in nomad sculpt on my phone π
I think it was worth it, though! I really love how this design turned out and I can't wait to make it real

Basically the goal is to keep the piece as flat as possible from side view, because any sudden bumps make the fur change direction and catch the light, showing the seam.
Before and after on a curved seam:

Bad diagram showing how I did it:
The second line of stitching (done after brushing out and shaving the seam in the back) gets rid of that dip in the middle of the seam. The fabric is thick, so to keep the whole piece even you need to make the seam thick too!

I promised myself I'd keep to normal work hours and not do fursuit making over the weekend
Practising and refining my technique for machine sewn seams doesn't count, right? Asking for a friend π

Okay but look at the sculpt I did this week for this doberman premade ππ
I feel like my style as a fursuit maker has grown into being "oops I accidentally made it hot again"

For that reason I think it makes sense for me to stick to making premades, that way if something happens and I need to put it aside for a while to do other work I won't be disappointing anyone waiting for a commission

I'm back to fursuit making for the next little while, and I'm so excited to bring all the techniques I learned into my work!
I think this is how things are likely to work going forward, film stuff is freelance so I'll be doing that for stretches of time and then coming back to fursuits in between!

Hey! So like six months ago I started a freelance gig working on costumes for movies which was like a dream come true. I was only initially hired for two weeks, but I guess they liked me because they ended up keeping me on a lot longer than that π
So yeah that's where I've been!

It's essentially like draping in dressmaking, and I find it a lot faster than taping the whole thing
I still use tape for little fiddly areas like the corner of the mouth
and to piece bits of the foam together, but I don't have to go over the whole head multiple times

A technique I've adopted from my other job where we pattern wheelchair seats: using this foam that's made for under vinyl flooring (or thin packing foam, same stuff) to pattern!
It has just a little bit of stretch like fabric does, so it follows the contours really well

First I wanna make a pattern and lil tutorial for how to sew his nose tho cause it's gonna be pretty specific to the shape (and it's pickable so your cow can have a septum ring!)

I was super unhappy with the head base sculpt on the highland bull premade I was like halfway finished making, so obviously I decided to start over from scratch
But omg look how good he looks noww I'm so glad I decided to rework the sculpt π

Lowering this to Β£2000 for a head or Β£2500 for a mini partial if you bring me either a jaguar or a panther cause my lil brain is so set on making one but I don't have any interesting ideas for designing one from scratch π

Sneak peek!
Also I know I designed this as a lion base but now that I've seen it printed in black filament I'm dying to make a panther with it too π

Almost happy with this guy!
He's not the same as my Kovu - Kovu will always be a unique one off (partly bc his signature smirk made patterning take twice as long since the pieces couldn't be mirroredπ), but he's in a similar style & will be available as a TPU head base soon!

This is why I love printing with ABS, going from raw print to this takes like 5 minutes - a quick wipe with a paper towel soaked in acetone to blend the print lines, and then a little bit of sanding to make things smooth and matte

Yesss, and also a masculine lion too! (Similar to the kovu I made, but designed to suit a wider range of characters and vibes)
