Are you looking for speaking gigs at bird/nature clubs and events? I get more requests than I can honor, and Iβd love to have a roster of folks I can recommend, especially folks from underrepresented groups.
Looking for walls to install 10x10ft bug murals this fall. It's far away, but we want them all lined up before submitting funding requests which happens way before paint ever hits a wall.
Pretty please spread the word, my fellow Philadelphians.
If I wanted water, I would drink water. I'm here for the solids.
Whatever my complaints about the huge emphasis in academia on publishing, it *does* force us to learn to write technical documents clearly enough that they get through peer review. This is an incredibly useful skill to have, and may be an underappreciated benefit of the PhD process.
I'm not sure where you got that number, but it is not correct. In the US, the median salary for full time workers two years ago was 63k.
Only kinda related: have you been following the release of the game Relooted? The premise is really awesome (heists to return looted artefacts to their rightful peoples) and it sounds like the writing and gameplay are awesome. There's a great Postgames interview of the leads.
What is this from?

Looks like yes, their servers are rejecting requests from microsoft edge specifically.
Is anyone else getting 403 errors when opening any @figshare.com site using Microsoft Edge? I can't tell if this is a browser thing or a work firewall misfire.
"What an Orwellian nightmare!" (The grill is an absolute mess)
I don't know if @icklenellierose.bsky.social is crying tears of joy or excited expounding on the many wonders of this game, but I'm hopwful she gets some telepathic signal every time someone discovers this.
I've started clipping various short segments from some of my live and interactive virtual "weather and climate office hour" sessions. While I always record and publish the full conversations uncut, they can be a bit lengthy. :) Here's the first batch!

Interesting. I've never heard moving van, always moving truck (even if it's a van). Regional differences?
π£ Do you live in the Portland, OR, area? We're especially in need of volunteers to help with some in-person parts of organizing the Cascadia R Conference (Jun 26-27, 2026). Volunteers get free registration for the conference!

Ohhh! Yeah. Maybe that's why? Definitely a lot of coriander!
Either way, I'm surprised at the sloppiness by Kitchenaid, which posted a quarter of a billion dollars of revenue in 2024 (ecdb.com/resources/sa...). I'd assume they could afford a professional website with quality control.
What's the verdict? I don't really know. I'm not an expert on LLMs (or on cooking, for that matter!). But the discrepancies make the most sense to me if this recipe is really a Frankenstein of other recipes, whether constructed by human or LLM.
4) Finally, the recipe seems incomplete. It concludes with preparing the garnishes and setting them aside.
To be honest, this one seems pretty reasonable. I know what to do with taco ingredients. But it feels weird for it be so incomplete.
3) The sauce calls for 1/2 cup of olive oil, half an onion, ~half a cup of roasted red peppers, a lemon's worth of juice, etc. It makes a *lot* of sauce.
The recipe then calls for you to use only 2 Tbs of sauce.
??
Why not call for fewer ingredients? The lemon juice alone was more than 2 Tbs.
2) "Place all sauce ingredients into the blender", but there are no indications for which ingredients are for the sauce. My best guess was the peppers onwards.
Could be human sloppiness, especially if this recipe was copied from another format. But LLMs also struggle with consistency...
1) ingredients are a mix of units. Coriander is listed in grams, other spices in teaspoons/tablespoons. Why? Seems like a weird choice for a human author.
Got a stand mixer recently (YAY!) and thought I would try out a recipe that uses it, from the manufacturer's website.
Annnnnd.... now I'm playing the game "Recipe written by LLM or just weird?"

Some strange findings, a thread:
I'm not the only one with this problem??
@theabigailthorn.bsky.social has an awesome recent video that does a deep dive on the "population crisis"! And yeah! Racism! Plus also maybe scheme to privatize pensions? And other stuff. It's a great watch.
