oh yeah so it turns out that I had a MyFitnessPal account that logged in with Facebook, and since Under Armour doesn't support Facebook auth, that account became inoperable post-acquisition (not even password reset worked)
anyway that's the account that got compromised
Finder icon by Squid4572. I really don't know how to describe this, apart from the smile being much wider and flatter than the original Finder icon, evoking an expression that's more like a fake, polite smile or something.
A photo of the Polite Cat meme, for comparison. I think the expression looks very similar but I don't know how to describe it for alt text, sorry.

this is to say that my perception of the "my hidden truth makes me better than you" anti-Semitism cloaked in Christianity has been relatively flat, while your current path to expert + wow, another war crime inherently increase your exposure to it. does that explain all the uptick? no idea
but without sufficient passion, proselyting your alternative facts too much exposes you to cognitive dissonance and that discomfort makes you stop. as a result you only advertise it in context, like if someone brings something up or someone decides to commit another war crime again
and thus when you encounter an expert, you are required to tell them that you are right. this loop is self-reinforcing regardless of outcome, because anything they say that could be construed to align with your beliefs means you are cool and smart, and any disagreement is proof that you know better
my wild guess is that conspiracy belief systems fundamentally require confidence that you know a hidden truth that most people do not, which makes you cooler and smarter and better looking than everyone else, especially so-called "experts"

CBS spokesperson Phil Gonzales provided The Verge with the same statement claiming Colbert was not blocked from broadcasting the interview that was given to Variety and other outlets, but refused to attribute it by name per The Verge's background policy. Asked for a name, Gonzales wrote, "Respectfully, you don't need to use the statement. We will keep that in mind next time verge as us to reply [sic]."
