It’s the total dominance of Pogacar that is the problem. That it’s a foregone conclusion in a way that’s unique (since Merckx, who doped). Simply someone capable of challenging occasionally beyond MvdP in very specific situations is all we need.

That’s wishful thinking I fear… There were a LOT of extenuating circumstances at Amstel. Pogacar wasn’t fresh, underfed, and there was a huge headwind that benefited Remco and Skjelmose working together. Plus the back end of Amstel Gold is flatter. It was an anomaly (as other races have shown).
